Paranormal Activity - 12/29/09
Just saw this one posted at Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...0XA/comingsoon Seems like it's coming out fast, but I guess after making over $100 million in theaters they wanted to get it out sooner than later. |
Re: Paranormal Activity - 12/29/09
Pass. Too much money for a 1 minute Alternate Ending and a Digital Copy. Rental for sure.

Re: Paranormal Activity - 12/29/09
WTF. $48.99 MSRP on a Paramount title?
|
Re: Paranormal Activity - 12/29/09
It's in my Amazon goldbox right now for $28.49. Fuck you, Paramount.

Re: Paranormal Activity - 12/29/09
For a movie that was marketed so well, it surely seems they are handling the dvd/blu release terribly.

Re: Paranormal Activity - 12/29/09
And let's not forget this was filmed with a video camera! Sure, I'd buy the SD of this feature but why on earth would anyone shell out anymore than $15.00 for this?

Re: Paranormal Activity - 12/29/09
I don't get why this release has ZERO bonus features aside from an alt. ending? This reeks of double-dip.
Still, I wanna get it to see my name among the millions in the credits. |
Re: Paranormal Activity - 12/29/09
should look great on Blu!
 |

Since it only cost $11k to make and was shot on a DV camera, I would think the behind the scenes stuff would be really limited.

Since they originally shot about 70 hrs of “home footage” for the movie, I had hoped some of it would make the blu ray release. Maybe they are holding back for the super deluxe later on?

The Blair Witch Project had a distributor who believed the film would do well in theaters as well as a studio willing to promote the film themselves with a faux documentary.
Paranormal Activity had a trailer, a couple of TV spots, and languished on the shelf for two years. The distributor felt so good about the film they bought that they did not want to release it. Instead, they invited screenwriters to a screening to see which person could do a proper write up for a remake.. It took writers walking out in fear for Dreamworks to decide to finally release it to theaters but their faith was so strong that they only released to selected theaters. Then after the success at those theaters, a website was created so people could demand it for their area. All the while, the same TV spot played around the nation with new buzz being created on social networking sites. So yeah, Dreamworks could have done their usual bang-up special edition release and secured the clearance for the press interviews plus pile some more money to finish some of the key unused footage. But if they couldn't even spend the money to make up new TV spots and fully promote the movie, I doubt they would even put any major effort in the home video release. |

It's priced way to high for me to grab on release day. Real bummer as it does look excellent. Really hoping Wal-Mart puts this on sale for $20 so Amazon can price match, otherwise I'll just wait it out till it drops. I'm just baffled that Paramount is releasing such a bare bones release. This is the type of film where I'd love to see deleted footage, interviews and whatnot.
The hype for the film might die down the longer they wait to release it. I smell Double-Dip. |

Will surely take it, just to see the result ... and hope i'll like it :)

Re: Paranormal Activity - 12/29/09
I was going to pass on this release since it's pretty much a lock that a better edition is down the road, but the inclusion of the ending I've always wanted to see might cause me to bite.

Re: Paranormal Activity - 12/29/09
My friend got his copy of this so I'm going to watch it this weekend. Hopefully it lives up to the hype.
