They fit inside the case, while the discs are the same color as the booklets with the same font scrolled on them for the titles. Each slipcover is matte and somewhat soft instead of shiny and stiff.

Re: Lionsgate releasing RAN & other StudioCanal titles
Basically, all their StudioCanal titles will eventually go OOP, due to their deal with Lionsgate (granted, not all of them will be OOP by the end of March, but we can bet that their licenses won't be renewed).

That's what I thought too. Lady Killers is very bright. Any reviews on Contempt's transfer and features out there?
EDIT: NVM....here we go. Looks good.

Well I thought that the DVD was overly dark, so in comparison the blu does seem a bit bright, but I like that I can actually see things in the film now.

Here's the review for Ran from DVDBeaver

I'm going to get both Ran and Contempt eventually. I'd like to wait for them to be $20 or less though.
As for the Ladykillers screen-shots... those definitely look too bright. I've never seen the film, and will probably pass on the BD altogether.

The Ladykillers definitely looks underwhelming, but it's stacked with extras and unloading the OOP Anchor Bay disc should mean the upgrade won't cost me anything.

While the Ran blu-ray certainly looks sharper and more clear than the Criterion dvd, I prefer the actual look of the dvd as the blu-ray looks too bright and garish, with colors that are nearly neon.
And Ladykillers looks way WAY too bright.

I'm unclear as to which Edition has English subs? Does the lionsgate BD have them or is it only the Jesnet disc that has no English subs?

From Blu-ray.com--
I'd LOVE The Howling in HD. Still one of my all-time favorite horror films. Hopefully it'll get a US release some time soon.
French distributor Studio Canal has announced eight movies for Blu-ray release on May. Titles recently released were more of the arthouse type, but this new batch has a heavier presence of 1980s guilty pleasures, balanced out with some classic Pacino for good measure. There is no information regarding region coding.
Announced titles include:
* Angel Heart (Alan Parker, 1987)
* Anthony Zimmer (Jerôme Salle, 2005)
* The Constant Gardener (Fernando Meirelles, 2005)
* The Howling (Joe Dante, 1981)
* Le père Noël est une ordure (Jean-Marie Poiré, 1982)
* Red Sonja (Richard Fleischer, 1985)
* Serpico (Sidney Lumet, 1973)
* Stargate (Roland Emmerich, 1994) 15th Anniversary Edition

I'm pretty sure The Howling is still with MGM in the U.S. because of the whole Avco/Embassy thing.

Re: Lionsgate releasing RAN & other StudioCanal titles
The previous releases made The StudioCanal Collection look like the new Criterion label. This announcement just says "meh, have they already run out of classic important films to release?"

there's a difference between regular studiocanal releases and the studiocanal collection

I just hope that not all of the "Studio Canal Collection" discs are as awful as Ran and Contempt. The problems with Ran have already been discussed. I watched Contempt the other day and it's no better. More than 50% of the movie is clearly upconverted SD (very, very badly upconverted), and the soundtrack is shriekingly unlistenable. This is the worst Blu-ray I've ever watched.

The European ones I've checked out -- The Elephant Man especially and Belle de jour -- were both pretty great, I thought.
