Re: Amélie on Blu-ray Disc
Considering Lionsgate went with this for Memento (descriptive bar on top, quote on bottom):
... I'd be inclined to believe that it's final. But the art's fine.
You could get the (rather good) Alliance disc instead, which looks exactly like the old Miramax two-disc DVD:

Re: Amélie on Blu-ray Disc
See I don't that for memento. It's got a lot going on in there.
That Amelie one though seems like they amped up the color. And that quote is weird. Looking that the Canadian one has all the features from the Miramax DVD...I might just get it. DEPENDING on how much that is compared to the US one of course...and whether I'm that picky...which I might for this one.

Don't forget the subtitle issues with this movie. The Miramax DVD has a simplified English translation that's filled with typos. I'd expect that the Blu-ray will use the same subs.
I can't speak for the Canadian release, but the Australian Blu-ray uses the original theatrical subtitles, which are a more coherent translation.

for the Aussie BD: Any odd wording that's Aussie specific?
for the Canadian BD, blu-ray.com says it's "very good" I don't know wtf that means cuz that's all they say.
BUT a user reviewer says this:
So.....I wish they had a screen cap of that. hrm...

The only unacceptable blunder here is to have the English subtitles encoded into the image. No way to remove them, no other subtitles. How hard would it be to have *optional* French AND English
subtitles?

Not really. It is just a more accurate translation that doesn't have the many outright mistakes in the original DVD release. As with any translation, there are subtleties in the French dialog that aren't captured by a translation.
From my earlier post:
*some subtitle errors on the DVD:

OK, I did my own bit of research, contacting a reviewer who posted an early look. I asked him to check the annoying subtitle example that replaces "page 51" with "Page St." Here's his response:
"According to your example, I would say that it has been corrected. That line reads 'Page 51'. "
So if that's any indication, we might be in luck!

Thanks! I've been looking for reviews and couldn't find any.
And double thanks for finding out about the subtitle issues.

For anyone who does not have this, Fry's Electronics' Ad from 7/22-28 has the BD @ $7.99
Thanks to Fidodido who originally posted the Ad over at the BD Bargains Forums.

Perhaps not quite that good of a deal, but those of you who don't live near Fry's (none on the East coast) might check your local Borders for going-out-of-business bargains. I got Amelie for $12 yesterday.

I was near a Fry's on Saturday, so I picked up Amelie for $7.99. Really happy I decided to wait on a deal on it (didn't have to wait long apparently!)

I am envious of those who live near a Frys since frys.com hasn't matched the price. I would have liked to pick up several copies for use as gifts (my Aussie release suffices for me).
But I can see this being below $10 at Amazon before the end of the year.
