Hero, Zatoichi, Drunken Master 2 & Iron Monkey Blurays fm Miramax

I'd expect Legend of the Drunken Master to be the dubbed one.

Hero is a must buy, that Zatoichi remake & it's awful CGI blood is utter crap. Not interested in a dubbed Drunken Master although I'd love to have the film in HD.

The Dimension versions of Drunken Master 2 and Iron Monkey are both cut and edited which is too bad since I would love to see both movies in HD.

I may end up buying it if I can find it cheap enough.

This news is great! I was just wondering when I would see Hero on BD!

Re: Hero, Zatoichi, Drunken Master 2 & Iron Monkey Blurays fm Miramax

If Legend of Drunken Master is only the American dubbed version, I'll get it when it's cheap -- that's the only way I've seen the movie thus far, so it won't harp on me too much. However, BD is really a huge chance to redo all of Jackie Chan's catalogue, which is mostly available in dub-only, edited versions, so it would be really disappointing if the opportunity hadn't been taken to rectify the situation. I don't need any other extras: just include both cuts of the film and I'll be thrilled.

Iron Monkey is a definite purchase for me despite it being the crappy cut version.

Maybe Hero as well considering the DVD's terrible quality.

Drunken Master is a must own if they include the original language track with English subtitles.

Hero WILL be mine. Zatoichi is a maybe depending on sale price.

Iron Monkey is a great movie, would have liked to see Supercop in this pack, maybe even Tai Chi Master, but decent choices to start with.

Re: Hero, Zatoichi, Drunken Master 2 & Iron Monkey Blurays fm Miramax

Oooo . . . For the right price I'd certainly be tempted to upgrade "Iron Monkey". I bought the non-anamorphic (official) Chinese release when it was still in theaters here in the States, and then picked up a previously viewed copy of the Miramax DVD, which I've since given away. The Chinese release, though, aside from looking like hammered dog doo, has terrible English subtitles that don't give near enough time to be read, and an English dub that's just ridiculous. That MSRP, though . . . sheesh. Somebody at Disney needs to be fired.

Supercop and Tai Chi Master are with Dragon Dynasty now.

I'd rather see Miramax release some of the stuff in their vaults than Zatoichi (which already has a serviceable UK release) and what will almost certainly be cut versions of DM2 and Iron Monkey. Kung Fu HD showed a bunch of uncut titles from the Miramax library like Wheels on Meals, Boxer From Shantung, Peking Opera Blues, Prison on Fire and so on that I would love to see on Blu, but fat chance of that happening...

Based on the cover art... yeah.

I guess I'll just have to hang on to my Chinese DVD of that one.

If all four of these films have $45 SRPs; they all better come with their uncut variations. Except Hero, include the longer cut that came out overseas afterwards.

Re: Hero, Zatoichi, Drunken Master 2 & Iron Monkey Blurays fm Miramax

Hero is the only one with a $45 retail because they did a new HD master and added a featurette & digital copy. The other three are $40 RP each.

However, the box set retails for $109.99. That means it will be under $100 at most stores so you essentially end up with two BDs free. That means that even if Drunken Master 2 and iron Monkey are the still the US versions, at least you didn't pay retail for them.

Definitely interested in getting Hero. The others not so much because of a gut feeling of the dubbed/cut status.

I am very happy with my R2 HK Legends Iron Monkey, so I'll stick with that for now.

I just saw the Drunken Master 2 (Legend of Drunken Master) Blu Ray in a store. I looked on the back cover and there is definitely no original audio there, still just the English dub (I think a French dub) as well. What a shame....

I saw Drunken Master 2 in theaters years ago (before Jackie Chan was known to US audiences) -- it is far superior to the cut and dubbed Legend of Drunken Master (which I own on DVD). I would happily upgrade for the original uncut version.

As per the DVD Beaver review, Hero is only the English Dub in lossless audio. Original audio is only 5.1

Time to order from abroad. Nice of Miramax to continue fucking up these releases, first in the theater, then the DVD/BD.

Re: Hero, Zatoichi, Drunken Master 2 & Iron Monkey Blurays fm Miramax

It beggars belief that companies still release sub-standard discs after a decade of releasing in the digital age. I mean how difficult is to put the original language soundtrack in lossless on a BD as well as a dub?

Oh well, I live in hope that eventually someone will release a reasonable quality version of Hero on BD. All I am asking for is original language lossless soundtrack and English subtitles - it's not too much to ask for is it?

The only possible alternative thus far is the Spanish version -- the French/German/Dutch versions are all startlingly ugly. But I haven't seen any reviews of the Spanish disc. Miramax looks to have got the PQ right but it's typical of them to drop the ball in another (incredibly obvious) area.

I actually enjoyed the hell out of the Zatoichi remake (shitty cgi blood & all), but i'm not exatly looking for it on Blu-Ray. It would have to be pretty cheap for me to double dip.

I'm holding out for some Asian edition to come out. Sure they'll be more expensive, but I doubt they'll do shit like Miramax. I dropped $28 a piece for some Donnie Yen movies (Flash Point, Sha Po Lang, and Ip Man). I'll pay the same for a GOOD blu ray release of Hero and Zatoichi.
