Of course they are "made up" that's the whole nature of fiction. Yeah, OK, so I'm not a "Trekkie", so maybe that's why I might consider a book like Prime Directive canon while others don't. It's labeled as such and that's good enough for me.

The official Star Trek site incorporated all of the facts and information from the animated series into its official library section in 2007....which is pretty much the equivalent as saying it has now been returned to canon....

I got this also, and my 2 Targets had it for $24.99. And the regular BR for $19.99.

Also noticed that the regular BR says 30 featurettes while the Enterprise Case says 31 featurettes. Any truth to that?, haven't seen mine yet.

Maybe the case is the feature?

Loved the movie and I bought the Target Edition when I saw it. There were only 2 left and I grabbed one and gave the other to a person also looking to buy the blu-ray.

Re: Star Trek: Nov 17

After much struggling with the decision and looking carefully at pictures of the Star Trek ship in the $24.99 Target package, I decided the ship wasn't THAT great and would just take up space and collect dust, so I'll return it. For about $8 in savings I ordered it from Amazon for $18.99... not quite as cheap as others' Gold Box deal but good enough for me.

Watched it again with the commentary. Those guys are always great with these but I learnt quite alot.
One of the main things I learnt was when Kirk was eating the apple it wasn't to do with Wrath of Khan! He says that he once heard a reviewer say he hates seeing actors eat apples in films so he put that in there. But I'm not sure.

I still cannot believe it has nothing to do with TWoK, it takes away from the awe I had for the writers when I 1st watched in IMAX. I leaned next to my buddy and said that Kirk was eating an apple when he 1st talk about the test.

They said people looke "cocky" when they are eating apples, so he wanted that attitude for Kirk.

Even if it wasn't intentionally an homage to TWOK, it certainly was subconsciously. Artists do a lot of things in tribute to other works that they don't, themselves, realize.

Re: Star Trek: Nov 17

pretty sure, it was definately an intentional choice, to give a tip of the hat to the scene from TWOK. as big of trek fan as Orci is,I cant help but think they are just trying to down play it for somereason. there are to many little nods and referances to the old trek for this not to be intentional.

Okay, please forgive me if this has already been addressed, but I have a plot question:

Spoiler:
How did Nero know where and when to find Spock Prime? I know that his 20+ year absence can be explained by the Klingon prison term in the deleted scenes, but I'm still curious as to how he and his crew were able to apprehend Spock.

Agreed, if it wasn't to do with TWoK it should have been some sort of alien fruit, something purple or something. Also if it's not connected why have it in that scene?!
You could have put the apple eating while he was getting on the shuttle or something.

Intentional or not, it was a very cool nod to TWOK.

Well, he's had 25 years with nothing to do but calculate that.

Re: Star Trek: Nov 17

With the $5.00 BD coupon at Target, this was $14.99 or $19.99 for their Enterprise exclusive. I didn't want or need the special packaging, so $14.99 is nice for the 3-disc Blu-ray.

Okay,
Spoiler:
but what happened with his ship while he was detained? Wouldn't it be possible for Spock to pop up around then just as much as the exact time he did?

wait...I know this film isn't perfect but it's a damn fun film for sure..but...

Spoiler:
to my understanding from what was shown (and I could be wrong) didn't Nero literally just wait around for Spock to come to that exact location hoping that eventually he'd pass through? If anything I would've kept in the Prison scene somehow...but I can't see how cuz it would kill the pacing early on

You really want to know?

From the "Star Trek: Nero" comic book from IDW (which has a story credited to screenwriters Kurtzman and Orci):

Spoiler:
After the battle between Nero and the Kelvin, the Klingons attacked the Narada and took her crew prisoner. They were taken to Rura Penthe, where they were held prisoner for about twenty years.

While on Rura Penthe, a former Starfleet officer named Clavell told Nero that Spock and his ship would also have gotten pulled into the black hole along with Narada, but that he would not be unable to accurately calculate where or when Spock would re-emerge.

At some point, the Narada "awakened" and broke Nero and his crew out of Rura Penthe and destroyed the Klingon fleet. The Narada, operating on its own, flies to near the Delta Quadrant, zeroing in on an energy source.

The Narada arrives at a nebula, and Nero enters it. The "nebula" is, in fact, V'Ger. V'Ger could sense the Narada as sort of kindred spirit and sought it out. Nero is able to have V'Ger calculate the time and place Spock would emerge in the past.

Nero is then waiting on Spock when he arrives, takes him prisoner, steals the red matter (ie, Rambaldi device), and maroons Spock on Delta Vega.

Okay...the Narada had a mind of its own? Was it Borg tech or something?

I thought of something else:

Spoiler:
Seeing as how Nero and co. were in a time period where Romulus had yet to be destroyed, couldn't they have just flown there and warned their fellow Romulans? If memory serves, they (the Romulans) were not on the best of terms with either the Federation or the Klingon Empire at the time, so they most likely would have welcomed a motley group with advanced weaponry and a bad ass ship. Instead of destroying just Vulcan, Nero could have formed an armada and set out to conquer the whole galaxy. Also, how does Kirk manage to get marooned on the same planet and just a few miles from Spock prime? Coincidence as a plot point really bothers me.

Re: Star Trek: Nov 17

If it needs a comic to explain something in the film...it's not a great way to explain it.

(With apologies to Solid Snake PAC...)

Yes, the Narada was based on Borg technology, according to the "Star Trek: Countdown" series, also from IDW.

The "Countdown" series takes place a few years after "Star Trek: Nemesis" and shows the events leading up to the destruction of Romulus, explains why Nero hates Spock, shows where the Narada and Spock's ship came from, and had a number of cameos from ST:TNG characters.

I'm not sure whether or not the comics are considered to be fully canon, but they do have the screenwriters credited with the stories, and I doubt most of these plot points will ever be addressed again future films.
