Anyone catch Star Wars in HD over the weekend?

Wow. It makes me want them on BD that much more. Except for a few scenes in Return Of The Jedi (which looked to still be in standard def), they looked amazing.

...but the marathon made me realize again just how bad the new trilogy was. Sigh.

My son and I got out The Clone Wars BD and loved that as well. Any word on if the full first season is still coming out this year?

Hasn't been officially announced yet, but 11/3 is the date that's floating around.

I liked MTV HD's broadcast better since they added interstituals on the music and pop culture influence of the films. However, I didn't like the 1.78:1 cropping of the films.

Re: Anyone catch Star Wars in HD over the weekend?

yeah, 1.78 cropping does suck, since most of the non Cinemax cable showings displayed it that way.

I watched all my HBO HD recordings in OAR last year but I wound up not keeping them. The bandwidth on my provider sucks and every explosion was marred by massive marcoblocking. I'd rather watch the standard def and have better audio until the BD's come.

wonder if the bluray's will have lossless "DTS-MA" since it's pretty much a given on Fox blu's - I know that Lucas opted for Dolby Digital only on the dvd's.

I'll worry about that when they actually get announced. But I don't see why it wouldn't be lossless.

DTA-MA, Dolby TrueHD -- no difference. If Lucas wants Dolby this time, it won't matter.

:gah: What network aired them in HD this weekend? If it was commercial free, I'll kick myself...

If they aren't lossless, Lucas will face an angry mob... not that that's anything new for Lucas.

Spike HD aired them...with commercials.

Spike and MTV are both owned by Viacom so they can share the broadcast rights.

Re: Anyone catch Star Wars in HD over the weekend?

Thanks, I'm not as upset with myself now. I only have Episode III left on my DVR from when HBO showed them. I wish I had saved them all. I thought they'd air again. I didn't expect the rights to go exclusively to Viacom. :(

Well, he can always re-release them with lossless a year later, right? Won't play that game this time around. The first Star Wars set available on Blu-ray is what I will get and if they change it to Yoda shoots first so be it.

My original, non-anamorphic trilogy will have to suffice until the day that the original original trilogy is released on HD.

Sounds like my provider - Mediacom.

Oh wow, Beta. That is so cool. Seriously, I am such a geek for that kind of stuff.

DVHS, not VHS. It pretty much is the predecessor to BD/HD-DVD.

Re: Anyone catch Star Wars in HD over the weekend?

Everything that's happened to these movies over the last decade (including the arrival of more of them) keeps serving to remind me how lucky I am that I'm only halfway interested in one of them. Between the prequels, the "Special Editions" (or whatever new variation Lucas will deign to release) and the radically revised color-timing, I really feel like I dodged a bullet by not caring about these movies very much.

Re: Anyone catch Star Wars in HD over the weekend?

I'm kind of similar, I enjoyed Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back... series is kind of dead to me after that (Return of the Jedi, imo, is harder to watch than Phantom Menace.)

Don't mind the color timing alterations but wasn't a fan of the CG insertions.

That said, I do have all 6 in HD on a dvr hdd from a commercial-free showing a while back.

I know - it was meant to be a joke.

My bad, I guess sarcasm doesn't translate well into text. Or maybe I'm just blonde :)

Whenever I see the SW movies on Spike or MTV, I don't even stop to watch anymore, because of the stupid Special Editions. I know I will see that doucebag Hayden at the end of Jedi, which is a worse mistake then Greedo shooting first, IMO.

The Prequels don't bother me because I can choose to recognize them or not, but the fact that Lucas killed the Originals still pisses me off. I see BluRay releases like Bladerunner with all versions for all fans, and wonder why Lucas is suck a dick???

Oh well, it is Lucas's empire, and does what he does these days....
