If I was drafting a list of the 50 best films of the 90's, Gummo would be top 5.

- with Brad Pitt narration
- with Cate Blanchett narration (extended cut)
- IMAX 'director's cut' version with no narration
- 'ultra' widescreen 3.6 aspect ratio version
Malick wants to also do a narration-less version of the 90 minute cut.
honestly though, this is one movie where Criterion could branch out and actually put out a bluray version and a UHD 4K disc edition.

My 2018 release dream is some UHD upgrades of existing Collection titles. Let's start with large format stuff like Playtime.

Honestly, I'm not sure that Criterion is even interested in UHD. The primary benefit of the format is not the resolution increase (which isn't terribly noticeable on typical screen sizes), but HDR. Re-grading old movies into HDR when they weren't photographed with that intention has the stench of revisionism, which Criterion generally (not always, but generally) shies away from.

Tell me their recent Barry Lyndon release wouldn't look glorious!

The Criterion Collection has announced that it will add four new titles to its Blu-ray catalog in April: Sofia Coppola's The Virgin Suicides (1999), Jim Jarmusch's Dead Man (1995), Sergei Parajanov's The Color of Pomegranates (1969), and Leo McCarey's The Awful Truth (1937).

Every month that offers nothing I want, like April here, is another month for me to catch up on my extensive backlog.
And no money out of pocket. Win-Win.
