Looks like the rumor of Criterion releasing the new restoration of Night of The Living Dead is true.

So this has either got to be The Breakfast Club (to go along with the previously hinted Sixteen Candles) or Diner (Barry Levinson was just in the Criterion closet).

I would go with The Breakfast Club. Which would make it what? The third release of that movie on BD in less than 5 years?

Diner would be cool. Great movie. However, that image strongly suggests Breakfast Club.

Wasn't there talk of additional footage being found? If they added that in, maybe that would help with the copyright situation?

Night of the Living Dead. 1968. USA. Directed by George A. Romero. Screenplay by Romero and John A. Russo. With Duane Jones, Judith O’Dea, Marilyn Eastman, Karl Hardman. 95 min.
Perhaps the most influential horror film of the last 50 years, George A. Romero’s classic is also one of the most abused—subjected, because of its public-domain status, to well over 100 home video releases of abysmal quality. On November 5, Romero introduces the world premiere of a new 4K digital restoration by MoMA and The Film Foundation. Drawing upon the original camera negative, which was carefully guarded over the years by the members of Image Ten, the Pittsburgh partnership that originally produced it, MoMA and The Film Foundation have returned the film to its full, original glory. From the barrier-breaking casting of an African American leading man (Duane Jones) to its reinvention of the zombie as a metaphorical figure of seemingly infinite richness, this is one American independent movie that has left a profound mark on our culture. Funding provided by the George Lucas Family Foundation and the Celeste Bartos Fund for Film Preservation. The restoration was overseen by George A. Romero and Image Ten—most especially, Gary Streiner, Russ Streiner, and John Russo—with restoration work done by Cineric Inc, NYC, and Audio Mechanics, Burbank, CA. DCP.

The film is still public domain but the Restoration has a copyright. Same situation with Criterion's PD releases like Carnival of Souls

RE: Breakfast Club BD's... again Criterion are releasing something that's already got a decent BD release. Even the supplements are decent enough. And it can be had for under $10 CAD.

Of all the downright shitty John Hughes blu rays out there, they pick the one movie that has a really solid release. Not to mention the ones that don't even HAVE a blu ray like Pretty in Pink, She's Having A Baby, Some Kind of Wonderful, Curly Sue, Career Opportunities.
I'll probably upgrade Sixteen Candles if its a major step up from the one I already own, I doubt I'll buy Breakfast Club. If I had my druthers they'd be releasing Pretty In Pink and Planes, Trains & Automobiles.

It's still a shame Criterion wouldn't touch NOTLD because of it's public rights situation. If they release this newer restoration it will be a day 1 buy.

I'd happily pay Criterion prices for Planes, Trains and Automobiles with a Steve Martin commentary. Very happily.
No need for Breakfast Club. I'm really surprised they're doing it.

Stoked on Barry Lyndon - the current blu-ray is a bit lacking and I expect Criterion to knock it out of the park.
I don't see what their FWWM could bring to the table that the blu-ray set of the series doesn't already have.

They really are doing FWWM, eh? So strange... you'd think Lost Highway would be a bit higher on the priority list... dammit.
Definitely in for Barry Lyndon, even though I have the UK Kubrick set.
The Lure is that new Polish flick, yes?
Personal Shopper was good, but not one I need to own.

Yeah, I don't get FWWM at all here
I'm also confused about Mad, Mad World rerelease. Is it just the same release again with the DVDs removed (it was originally released during the dual format era), or is there something new about this release (more footage found?).
