Awesome news about "Traffic." I had imported the Canadian BD/DVD release because it was literally a direct port of the Universal release, but it wasn't a flipper. I'll have to sell that now.

I was hoping that Traffic would get a CC BD. That's why I held back on getting the Universal BD.

I can't wait to check out Beaver's comparison between the Criterion Godzilla caps and that garbage release from Classic Media.

All the same, this is a dream come true release for me. How long have we talked about a Criterion Gojira release?

Godzilla fans are still going to have to keep the old CM 2-disc DVD if they want all the extras. FYI for anyone who was wondering.

As a fellow reviewer, if the reviewer wants to only give three stars for it, he/she is certainly entitled. It hardly makes them an idiot. I've reviewed plenty of movies and thought poorly of them when others thought it was some grand masterpiece (and vice versa). All personal preference.

Amazon has the OOP Pierrot le fou for $19.99 in case anyone still needs to pick it up.

Not exactly. The title was announced for release in 1998, but canceled due to a rights dispute with Toho. Criterion continued to release Laserdiscs until 1999. Armageddon was their final LD title.

The wiki-page for Criterion Laser discs says that there was a bunch of Godzilla movies Criterion was going to release. Too bad it never materialized.
And I'll take a moment to hope that someone will figure out a MOD program for Toho a la the Warner Archive. Because I think it would be neat.

I stand corrected.

A lot of titles have already seen DVD release.
3 stars is a low rating for this flick. It's a classic. Sort of reminds me of Leonard Maltin's low score for Alien. It pretty much created the horror/sci-fi trend. (Haven't checked in many years to see if that rating ever changed.)

3 stars means mediocre. That isn't a mediocre film. It is a good 4 star film. Yes, imho.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
i think it's weird, that people actually read reviews for anything other than content of & on the disc.
i could care less what someone's personal opinion of a film is.

For example, popular culture would say that Titantic is one of the greatest pictures of all time. Technically, I think it was one of the biggest piles of poop I've ever seen. But that's my opinion. Good reviewers don't write reviews to cater to everybody. Good reviewers write what is in their heart and what they believe.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I think its weirder for other people to read said review of the person's personal opinion and then bastardize it because it either doesn't follow popular culture or even worse their own opinion. It is just that, an opinion. I write plenty of reviews and read plenty more. I'll be honest with you, my webmaster and I don't agree on a lot of our scores. But above that we respect each other's opinion and certainly don't bastardize each other over it.

Jeez Louise, I was surprised that the reviewer rated it so low and felt he was way off base and reacted. I've already recognized that it was one reviewer's opinion. I think we can move on.
