It doesn't state that it is a director's cut on the artwork. I was a bit baffled by that little tidbit as well. I wonder what could possibly be different about the film? I always thought the one cut of the film was the director's cut in this instance.

Probably grabbing all of these at some point. Rushmore and The Three Colors Trilogy are at the top of the list.
Mildly disappointed that The Game wasn't included in the November slate.

imdb lists nothing about an alternate version. Maybe it's just a minor tweaking, ala Heat, since it seems they are keeping the same commentary. Or maybe it's just the same cut and that's a typo.

hrm...it does say "New HD digital transfer OF etc etc" Maybe...they're just saying it's a new HD transfer...but...like many...adding the DC bit is confusing. I thought there was one version of this film?

I checked my DVD and it does not say 'Directors' or 'HD Transfer' on it....so it's new. Guess we'll have to wait to see what Directors really means.

Ah shit. I'll assume there won't be both theatrical and director's on it, especially since the specs don't mention it.

If it IS a new cut, is that a new commentary? It wouldn't time up correctly....

Here's the Rushmore cover...pretty much same as the DVD, except for the new logo and some cropping.

This will be the best release of the year... by far.
Looks like the studios are licensing out more and more titles since they aren't making the money they used to when DVDs were selling like hotcakes.
I have to believe we'll be seeing Jean de Florette and Manon of the Spring soon as well.

Of course, Criterion won't be able to give every movie a BD upgrade that the studios don't see as financially viable, but they might be able to give us a few more, and I'll be waiting eagerly to see what they might come up with. I wasn't expecting to see 12 Angry Men released on BD right now. Very pleasant surprise.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
aren't the US video rights of Jean de Florette and Manon of the Spring owned by MGM?
(hence why we're not seeing Pasolini's Trilogy of Life getting released on blu - unless Criterion and MGM, and possibly Image are sorting out a deal)

So then there is no rumor of Jean de Florette/Manon getting an English-subtitled blu-ray release, right?

With Rushmore being announced, I wonder if Criterion will get The Royal Tenenbaums and Life Aquatic.
