Not HD-related, but I wasn't sure where else to put this:
Criterion to lower list-prices on seven DVD titles to $24.95 next month.

Speaking of which, what's the email address for the person I need to contact regarding replacement packaging? My Breathless and Brakhage digipaks got bent like a motherfucker in the mail.

I'm sure you're just ranting about your dislike for cardboard packaging, but if your statement is true about the damaged packaging then I'm pretty sure you should be contacting the company that sent you the discs for replacements. If you happened to buy directly from Criterion, then you can get in touch with their customer service or the Jon Mulvaney e-mail. Either one can easily be found on Criterion's site in the Help section.

I get frustrated that everyone turns to Criterion for replacement parts. I think they informally stated they were going to start charging $5 for booklet, etc, which sounds justified to me. That would encourage consumers to buy though a reputable seller where you can return it, but the idea of Criterion paying (at their own expense + shipping) to upgrade a bad flea-bay sale into a perfect set just seems wild to me.
As far as I know, in practice, Criterion have not followed their $5 policy.
doctorthodt, I'm not meaning to talk to your issue particularly. I'm sure you'll have little difficulty getting your appropriate replacements, and sorry you ended up with a bad auction.
My point is the same, though: as much as we see people get replacements on here, those costs have to come from somewhere. I guess the only answer is that the costs are factored into the price of the DVDs/blu-rays that we all pay for.

I'm more than willing to pay Criterion for replacement packaging, and said as much in the email I just sent them.

^ I know, and I said I wasn't addressing you. I have just been surprised at the instances in which Criterion says, "Sure, we'll send you a replacement." Pretty cool in some ways.

Your suggestion that I'm lying about the condition of my packaging simply because I don't like the design is as idiotic as it is hilarious. You might be able to get away with that holier-than-thou cyber-bullying horseshit on blu-ray.com, but that dog aint gonna hunt 'round these parts. I bought the discs on ebay and the seller is unable to send replacements. But thanks for actually answering my question, albeit in your own incredibly obnoxious way.

I wish they would go back to all cardboard packaging, but of course to many complaints will never let that happen.

Why not just use a normal BD case and fancy slip cover, Criterion? Sigh.

Anyone know if I can still get the replacement cases for the first wave of digipacks? I never got around to picking them up!

I love their clear plastic cases.
I like the double-packaged plastic cases in a cardboard sleeve (ie: Che)
I generally like their better cardboard cases (ie: Last Year at Marienbad, before it got swapped to plastic)
I generally dislike the cheap cardboard cases (ie: the first few releases, with LYaM being the only exception, because it was sturdier)
I hate the standard Blu-ray cases that everyone else uses.
None of these factors have ever stopped me from buying a title I wanted.
