The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

I actually liked the first version a lot. Less is more, I think. New one looks too complicated. Not too bad though, and I'll certainly buy it.

Right now I'd say it's my least fav but I'll have to give it another chance. All his films grow on me on subsequent viewings. (my fav's Rushmore) It's a pretty simple storyline, which isn't bad but it still felt long despite it's short run time. Seemed just a little too self aware of it's quirkiness at times too. Definitely a good looking movie visually though.

I love that cover. Very much in line with the Royal Tenenbaums and Rushmore art.

I've seen them all except for Life Aquatic and Fantastic Mr. Fox. I don't understand what you mean by that comment, though...

You said that the artwork looks too complicated. "Too complicated" is exactly Anderson's cinematic style. He doesn't believe in "less is more". He likes messy clutter. The more complicated artwork is appropriate in that regard.

Has anyone received a corrected copy of Walkabout from Criterion yet? I emailed them a month and a half ago about mine and they said that they didn't have corrected discs yet and I was going to wait until I heard that people are getting fixed discs before sending mine in.

On some players it begins to stutter and freeze up at the 52 minute mark. There is also very long load times on the disc.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems like we always go through this on Fridays. As far as I can remember, they generally wait until the 15th to make an announcement. If that falls on a weekend, expect an announcement shortly thereafter. Haven't they been consistent with this?

Well, earlier in this thread some people said it was the 2nd Friday of the month.

Funny. I remember having a conversation eons ago about Ghost World and whether I'd upgrade it to HD -- with my answer being something of a naive "no". Three years embedded in the HD format have obviously changed me, because the prospect of a Ghost World Blu-ray has me very, very excited.
One of our readers wrote in with a little nugget of rumor gold, and we wanted to share that with you all. We all know that MGM isn’t in the greatest shape these days, and that Criterion is slowly releasing some of their titles. Last week, during our discussion of Che with Moises Chiullan, we got to musing about the inevitable inclusion of Zwigoff’s 2001 film, Ghost World. According to our reader, who spoke with Zwigoff, Criterion has been approached about Ghost World, and it would appear that the ball is rolling on it’s release. It could be anywhere from 6 months, to a year before things get started, but it’s highly likely that this will happen.

Hopefully they can get Thora Birch's participation, I doubt if she's all that busy these days. Perhaps the full length Gumnaam as an extra, in HD? Its 151 minutes though, so that seems doubtful.
