I'm a big fan of almost all of his 60's work, but I must admit to being nonplussed by his later output. Weekend (my favorite) is the cut-off point for me. After that, Godard's films seem more like dated left-wing political lectures than actual movies.

Much like Kurosawa I'm not a fan Godard's later work either. All of his work is polarizing though, even his best, I completely understand why people don't like him.

My fav Godard is Band of Outsiders. It's just a lot of fun.

Yeah, it's just very fresh and youthful..it's hard not to get into it. You know? It's got that young cockiness that maybe I'm more inclined to understand being where and what I am.

I like Bande à part as well....thought it was good fun.

The thing about Breathless that really turned me off was the fact that it seemed

Spoiler:
an entire third of the film was spent on that one scene between Belmondo and Seaburg in the apartment. I don't mint dialogue-heavy films, but this went on forever.

I just sold my DVD of this title....and I realized that I had only watched it one time.

I don't know what it is, but I am just not enamored with this seminal title. I want to like it more, but I just can't seem to muster up the requisite appreciation.

PLEASE help me like this!
I guess I feel the same way about it. It's lovely stylistically, but I don't know if I want to watch it over and over again. I'll probably sell off my Criterion DVD copy just because of the window-boxing. Don't know if I'll ever get around to picking it up on Blu.

I hope that Night of the Hunter has the Charles Laughton Directs "The Night of the Hunter" doc about the outtakes and rushes that were saved and given to the AFI by Elsa Lanchester as part of the package.

Fucking awesome! Now if Criterion can give me a Cape Fear double shot on Blu I would be a very happy camper.

But wow Night of the Hunter, totally awesome!

Already hinted at, but nice to get confirmation. Hopefully some of the still-surviving rehearsal footage will be included as an extra. As for the rabbit, there are two of them on the riverbank during the children's boat journey.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

I'm going to speculate that since Criterion got Johnnie To to list his favorite Criterion movies and that his Vengeance was an IFC release, that we'll probably be seeing Vengeance on a Criterion dvd/blu-ray sometime soon.
