Wow- I'm a Criterion nerd and a podcast nerd and I didn't even realize Criterion has a podcast! It's too bad it doesn't sound so insightful, but maybe it'll get better. The best podcasts often start out a little weakly.

It isn't Criterion themselves, it is a fan podcast.

yeah...saw that. Wonder what he was there for? Business wise I mean.

Also...SALO isn't on BD. That's a warning sticker on there. It's blue..but if you look at it..it's a warning label.

That video was one of the better ones. I liked the Willy Wonka music. The Salo appeared to be the DVD version with a blue sticker. Just kinda odd.

According to Criterion's facebook page we're getting a Jean Cocteau release, likely "Beauty & the Beast" on Blu-ray. The artwork for Louis Malle's "Black Moon" has been nearly revealed as well.

He seemed pretty out of the closet on The Wire.

Dammit. Took the words right out of my mouth.

I'm guessing he's not getting much residuals from the show to be able to buy a BD player.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

(Potentially) reassuring news from Criterion on Facebook, regarding the preponderance of recent films and catalog upgrades:
Lots of classic and foreign-language stuff coming up, don't worry. Blu-ray upgrades and newer films are easier to keep on schedule than new classic restorations, because there aren't nearly as many potential sticking points (unexpected problems with film elements, version controversies, new discoveries we decide are worth the wait). Occasionally a bunch of things slip at once, and we are left with a month or two with a disproportionate number of contemporary films and Blu-ray upgrades. But the reason things slip is almost always that we chose to spend even more time on the restoration or to wait for an important supplement, so it's a trade-off. In the end, we hope you'll be happy with a better edition a month or two later, but we definitely aren't backing off of the older and foreign films. You'll see.

^ good, I really really want Jean Renoir's The River

has anyone read any murmurings if Criterion might be releasing a bluray of 'The Innocents'? (been trying to hold back from ordering the import)

I haven't heard anything. I doubt a Criterion release would surpass the BFI disc though. It was under 10 pounds a couple of weeks ago, but still a decent deal at 13.

But what about Twilight and New Moon? I mean, sure, Eclipse is a great film, but I want to have all the films with a smattering of Special Features!
