Just getting Walker on BD. Funny enough I have the DVD currently checked out from the library. Such a crazy film. William Walker was a scumbag.

Here’s an article from Criterion on the process behind the Kane packaging. They seem to revel in the negative reaction it got:

I like every one of those images about 1000 times more than the K.

I hate when commercial creatives try to outthink their customers.
It’s how we get packaging like this or the big Godzilla book.
It’s how we get that dragon show with the bad ending or the space show that doesn’t really fit where it’s supposed to or the space movie that doesn’t really fit where it’s supposed to.
There is always value in pushing creative limits, but if it becomes unrecognizable then what have you accomplished?

Apparently, there isn an issue with the A Hard Days Night 4K disc and a replacement program is forthcoming.
At 1:23:14 there should be a reaction shot because Grandpa came up through the floor, instead it shows John singing the wrong song.
At 1:24:43 there should be a shot of a helicopter waiting for them, instead it shows a shot of the control room where they are still performing.

Thanks for reaching out and apologies for this disappointing error which affects our recently released A HARD DAY'S NIGHT 4K UHD disc.
We will have replacement discs on hand in March. If you'd like a replacement, please email us back with the following:
Your name and a mailing address that will be valid for at least the next 3 months
A photo of the defective A HARD DAY'S NIGHT 4K UHD disc with your name and date written on the front/art side (using a sharpie or paint marker - you can write this info on the lighter portion of the disc, and take a photo against a light source so your name and date are visible). You do not need to break the disc.
The Blu-ray and DVD of A HARD DAY'S NIGHT are not affected and do not need to be replaced
You're welcome to submit this information closer to March, if you prefer, or contact the original vendor now regarding refund, exchange, or credit options.

at these continual issues. But as for the actual movie, there was no need for any comedy during the final performance. The Grandpa stage shit should have been cut. His antics were already getting old by the time they left the casino.

Nice. I always wondered why Criterion never handled that title and I believe I even mentioned it a bunch of pages back.
One of the very best films of the 90s.

If they have John Dahl, they should get Last Seduction - they did play it on their channel.

It’s John Sayles in the photo, not John Dahl.

Ack. Got Lonestar confused with Dahl's Red Rock West.
Still, Criterion has played Last Seduction, and it is in dire need of a good blu-ray.

The World of Wong Kar Wai boxset is probably the one I hate the most though. It was just a pain to deal with, and the book is kind of crap. I wish that they would just go back to simpler boxsets, like they did with the Van Peebles set.

I haven’t heard good things about IE. may pass. I’ll stream somewhere if anything. Looking forward to Miller’s Crossing this week. There are not many Coen bros movies I don’t like. It’s funny I have Criterion’s Blood Simple set to go too. And, didn’t make connection. Always forget MC is Coens. BS was first, right? May do that prior to MC, but different genres so doesn’t much. Hope there are some nice extras. I know movie will look and sound good. They always do. Imo.

I think I posted this previously, but this discusses the process they went through restoring Bamboozle: https://www.criterion.com/current/po...at-masterpiece

Yea, it will be interesting. There is a whole era of miniDV films that could use some TLC.

If they did the same kind of rework on IE, it could be 'revelatory' (not to sound too pretentious )

Inland Empire is really terrible. Lynch's worst "film" by far. (I put "film" in scare-quotes because it should really be called a "video.")
Blood Simple was the Coens' first film. Miller's Crossing was their third. Raising Arizona fell in between.
