What is that movie? Any good? I like Foreman, but honestly thought this was a musical. Isn’t it?

Great about Amadeus!

Sad about Melvin Van Peebles.

Re: Criterion releases on Blu-Rays, Part II

Is Ragtime a good movie? Whatís it about?

I like Forman but always thought it was a musical for some reason, isnít it?

But anything compared to Flynt or Cuckooís Nest? I even liked Man on the Moon.

Amadeus, have yet to see but have and know praise and all the Oscars. What 8? Canít believe I havenít seen. Even have digitally but this will be excuse. so this would be especially nice for 1st time viewing!

Ragtime is a really cool multi-character story taking place at the turn of the last century. Fantastic score from Randy Newman. A couple of great Oscar nominated performances, a great performance from Mandy Patinkin and the final James Cagney role. Gorgeous sets and costumes.

It was made into a musical in the 90s (which was GREAT, BTW).

The original novel by E.L. Doctorow is terrific. The movie is an infamous case of a promising film that got butchered in editing. It will be very interesting to see the workprint of the extended cut.

Anyone else have the Wong Kar Wai set?
Seems like the discs konk out at around the 90 minute mark (and issue with the layer-change, I think).
But it's not with every player - I think PS3s (maybe eve PS4s) are exempt - but not many people are still rocking those for their primary blu-ray player.

Yes, I had to have all the disc excepts As Tears Go By replaced. It’s not a player issue. There are batches of discs that are bad.

Let's hope the same thing happens with Charisma & Seance, and we get a boxed set in the future,

I have the Eureka! Masters of Cinema BD and would totally buy it on 4K disc if they were to release it.

Anyway, the movie, out Tuesday, anyone see?

What a gorgeous cover!

I mean, it's their second round of UHD announcements, and they're only just now finishing off the last of the titles mentioned in August, so it's not surprising. But to their credit, with 6 titles in something like 8 weeks, they're going heavier into it than boutique labels that have been at this for months/years.

Re: Criterion releases on Blu-Rays, Part II

Not that it's going to affect my purchasing decisions in the least, but did anyone else notice that there's no mention of DVD releases of several of Criterion's upcoming titles? The product pages for Melvin Van Peebles: Essential Films, La Strada, Once Upon a Time in China: The Complete Films, Citizen Kane, Menace II Society, The Celebration, and The Piano make no mention of being available on DVD. Was there an announcement that I missed that said something about this?

They've been more selective recently (and I think the bigger collections have been Blu-ray-only for a while), but Criterion said a couple months ago that they're still planning on supporting DVD (to at least some extent) in the foreseeable future. Two of the January titles are getting DVDs, for instance.

Re: Criterion releases on Blu-Rays, Part II

I would give my left nut for a big Criterion Kurosawa collection, similar to their Bergman box-set.

I wouldn't doubt that one is in the works.
