I wish somebody would distribute the Neil Breen films on Blu-Ray. I'm not paying $35 for a DVD-R.

Of course there's only one correct answer for what 1000 should be

Was gonna go to the local B&N to pick up the BRD Trilogy at 50% off, but saw that it was also 50% off on amazon, so I got it there instead, because going the the local B&N, which is in a huge outdoor mall, is a giant pain in the ass.

They are really stretching the anticipation on this latest batch of announcements.

All this anticipation and I bet the announcement will be anti-climactic. Nothing too surprising or anything.

However, this would be a good time to announce upcoming support for UHD-BD.... but I doubt that will happen.

I know there is a lot of talk about a Godzilla set. Can't say that I would be too excited for it, but there are a lot of people that would be. I guess we'll see come tomorrow.

House of 1000 Corpses would be appropriate.

Everyone online seems to believe its going to be a Godzilla box set and that the late announcement has something to do with Toho.

Sneaky fuckers. They put out their announcements today for 998 and 999 (and an update to 134 and 528)

999 - Matewan - John Sayles
https://www.criterion.com/films/29461-matewan
998 - When We Were Kings - Leon Gast
https://www.criterion.com/films/3008...-we-were-kings
134 - Häxan - Benjamin Christensen
https://www.criterion.com/films/352-h-xan
528 - 3 Silent Classics by Josef von Sternberg
https://www.criterion.com/boxsets/74...-von-sternberg

#1000 will be announced next week!

San Diego Comic Con is this weekend, and the speculation is that the set will be announced at or around the Godzilla vs. Kong panel. Since it’s Godzilla’s 65th birthday and this’ll be the first time Toho has been at SDCC, I think it’s fairly rational speculation.

I liked Matewan, but the other titles don't do anything for me.
Now that Sayles is in the collection, hopefully we'll get some of his other titles like Lone Star, Passion Fish and Limbo.
Speaking of which, he's been pretty quiet for a while... and his last 3 films really fell under the radar. You just don't hear much about those films at all.

I think we'll find out that we all had #1,000 inside of us all along.

I've been interested in Haxan for years, maybe this will push me over the edge.

I'm cautiously excited for #1000, it's almost certainly a Godzilla set, but I know it won't be complete. Universal has GvsKK (original) and Legendary won't want to share their new ones. Sony would probably share G98 to move a few more units, but otherwise this won't be as awesome as people are expecting.

Wonder if #1000 will be some big studio classic, like Citizen Kane or something, what with the major studios being less reluctant to give out distribution rights now than they used to be in the heydays of dvd.

Wouldn’t say no to that. But I thought I had a nice Digibook Edition that was loaded...

If they aren't going to have Godzilla have a spine number like the other box sets but still plan on releasing it then I would be happy with 1000 being Pink Flamingos.

Spine 1000 could be a montage of every time Donald Trump took a dump in the White House, but if it were UHD 4K, I'd still be over the moon.

If it were Wes Anderson taking a dump, I would believe it. Criterion releases anything he does for some reason.

I guessed that they could announce #1,000 to be a UHD-BD title (whether a title they've done before, or a new title on all 3 formats).
Criterion released their first BD title 2.5 years after the first BD title was released on the market, and it's been almost 3.5 years since the first UHD-BD title was released.
If figure if Criterion doesn't announce support for the format at this point, then it'll never come. The format is just too niche for an already niche collection.
