True. I was not aware that a remaster was in the works though. Is there something particularly wrong with the earlier Blu-ray release?

Nothing explicitly wrong, but Chungking Express was in the first wave of Criterion blus and its transfer is well over a decade old at this point. There is a new 4k restoration that I believe is currently making the rounds.

So I watched my copy of Broadcast News for the first time last night. Still an amazing comedy. But the image was grainy as fuck. Did they ever redo that transfer and do a disc exchange or anything? It looked pretty terrible to me.

It depends on the film stock they used. Film has grain. If you remove the grain, you remove the image detail.

I don't remember anything problematic about the transfer there. Haven't watched it in a couple years, but I enjoyed my last viewing of it on the same equipment I currently use.

Kinda like Hitchcock's Notorious, I'll buy every version of DTRT that's released.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
The first time that I watched my Blu of Broadcast News, I thought the exact same thing. However, the last time that I watched it, it didn't seem to be as bad as I remembered it. I DID get a bigger TV between my first and second watches; maybe that made the difference, although I'd never have thought that increasing the size of the image would have made it look less grainy.

Nice. The current blu-ray of DtRT is hot garbage and looks worse than the Criterion DVD.

Excited about that announcement of Do The Right Thing.
Hopefully the Transfer will be good so I can upgrade from my Criterion DVD.
