Can I dream of a Lynch box set?

Eraserhead
Elephant Man (Hopefully negotiated before the WB deal)
Lost Highway
Mulholland Drive

Well if this wasn't a hint, at least Criterion should know that people are interested now. It's gotten more attention already in a very short amount of time than any of their other tumblr posts.

Yeah, MhDr needed a good blu-ray like nothing else. I wonder if they'll darken the nudity like they did on the dvd.

since that is how Lynch wanted it to look then yes, it'll be blurred.

Hot damn! A CC blu-ray of Mulholland Drive, now that's an exciting prospect.

That "back alley man" dream sequence still floors me.
I almost passed out the first time I saw it.

Seeing it in a theater as a teenager, being completely unaware of both David Lynch or anything even remotely non-mainstream, was quite the experience.

I'm really optimistic but trying to remain cautious at the same time. They do tweet and post pictures of 'important' films they won't ever release from time to time.

One thing's for sure, it's a total Day 1 purchase from me. And I mostly tend to wait for half off sales.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

The Region B Blu-ray of Mulholland Drive from Studio Canal is pretty decent. The movie's cinematography has always been a bit cheap-looking owing to its TV roots.

Universal has the American distribution rights for the movie, so a potential Criterion edition would have to be licensed from them. Criterion got Brazil and a few other titles out of Universal, so it's definitely possible.

We already know that Eraserhead is in the works. That will no doubt be a direct port of existing foreign Blu-ray editions (which look great).

Lost Highway (also a Univeral title on these shores) is pretty badly in need of remastering. The foreign Blu-rays for that one are very mediocre.

The optical blurring in that scene is mandated in Laura Harring's contract. So, yes.

If you have your Brightness levels set properly, this is a non-issue. You're not supposed to be able to see anything in the shadows there in the first place. This only became a controversy when people paused the scene and cranked up the Brightess hoping to catch a glimpse of Harring's pubes.

I was thinking the same thing. My hopes are cautious but would def. purchase, as I consider this the greatest film of that decade. Saw it in the theater and I never forgot the experience.

I'm not saying they're definitely going to release this, and I would agree that this tweet alone doesn't mean a thing, but there's been other evidence that Criterion has Mulholland Dr. For example, I know awhile back that clips from the movie were pulled from YouTube and the note said "by request of Universal/Criterion Collection" (or something like that). I think there's been a few things that when taken together would indicate a Criterion Mulholland Dr. is likely.

I hadn't heard of that! That's most definitely a good sign.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

I rented Mulholland Dr. shortly after it was released on DVD and I hated it. I didn't even finish it as I recall. But I've heard so many great things about I'd like to give it another chance. And a Criterion release would be perfect. It wouldn't be the first time I revisited a film I didn't care for only to have a change of heart on a second viewing years later.

I hope I'm not being spoilerey but I think one of the movie's strongest points is how it gets progressively stranger as the movie goes. So it might be a case of not sticking with it long enough? Although I can definitely understand people not liking it at all too.

For what it's worth, I wasn't terribly keen on it until I read an article explaining what it (basically) meant. Now it's my favorite movie ever.

The Making of “Autumn Sonata,” a three-and-a-half-hour program examining every aspect of the production
Is this new or something made back in the '70s?

Newsletter hint:

It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World

Also, Howards End (along with all the Merchant Ivory releases they have) are going OOP, effective June 30th.

If they can get the Roadshow version pieced together, I'd be in for a Criterion version of IAMMMMW. The MGM BD already has a BEAUTIFUL picture for the theatrical version, however.

Are any of the Merchant Ivory titles on BD?

Don't Criterion usually have an announcement on their site listing the titles?

Odd choice of title for Criterion to pick up. What's next, a Criterion edition of The Incredible Mr. Limpet?
