It's a different branch obviously, but Amazon UK cancelled all of the mis-priced Silent Running pre-orders.

I'd say they did that do that time, even if none of the titles appeal to you. When it comes to appealing to as many parts of their demographic as possible, this is probably actually a pretty good month for them. There are at least two great films in this announcement (Vanya and Anatomy,) plus two (Anatomy and the sci-fi World on a Wire) that are likely to have an appeal beyond the usual Criterion fanbase. In fact, the Preminger is probably one of their more major announcements in a while - it's a classic film from classic Hollywood, and it also (I believe) marks the entry of James Stewart into the collection. I imagine it'll be a very good seller for them.

The Fassbinder is the most exciting release to me personally, since he's one of my favorite directors (though I realize you don't like him), and because I've been hearing a lot of positive buzz about this film specifically.

With that said, I've also been hoping for a bit more from the announcements the last few months, mainly because there are a few titles that I know that they're working on that I'm really anxious to get (the Koker trilogy, The Wedding March, Lonesome, some Rivette, more Wenders, more Satyajit Ray, etc.)

Of course, that was a more significant price mistake. I would imagine there's a threshold at which they're willing to "eat the cost" of a price mistake vs. getting the bad customer service of canceling a bunch of orders - but that's just a guess.

Anyway - these may well be cancelled, but I'll give it a shot since those are the two releases this month that I'd want right away.

Hopefully these won't be canceled, and Amazon is normally very good about honoring mistakes like this, but it is sounding like there were a lot of orders placed...so we will see.

Both Anatomy of a Murder and World on a Wire are now unavailable for order. I had ordered Anatomy this morning and after thinking about it decided to order WoaW. My earlier order for Anatomy is still on my accounts page.

World on a Wire caught my attention, it's in my DVDAf wishlist to keep an eye out for reviews and such, and I've bought less than a dozen or so Criterions over the years.

It's a late-silent/early sound film (silent and sound versions exist) by Pal Fejos (who I know nothing about outside of the fact that he directed this film.) I haven't seen it (it's fairly hard to come by, at least legally), but the things I've read about it (from Jonathan Rosenbaum, David Thomson, people on the CriterionForum, the IMDb folks who made this list, etc.) have made me really excited to finally be able to see it.

As for the other directors I listed, there are actually some specifics: Their Wenders releases will at least include his "Road Movie" trilogy (Alice in the Cities, The Wrong Move, and Kings of the Road), and we'll probably get at least a few others like The State of Things. The Rivette will probably at least be Out 1. The Ray will be "the Apu trilogy," and hopefully others. Of course, those are all really only "confirmed" insofar that they've stated that they're "working on them" in comments on Facebook/in response to emails/at various discussion panels, etc. There's always the possibility that some of them will never actually materialize.

Thanks. It's not often I come across movies I haven't heard of.

I knew about Wender's "Road Movie" Trilogy, but not "The State Of Things". I also heard "The American Friend" would be forthcoming.

Heard about Out 1 & the Apu Trilogy as well.

Got Rushmore today.

If not already mentioned, it comes with the Insert and Foldout poster like the DVD (though it's obviously shrunken a bit and slightly changed). Both show a runtime of 93 minutes on the case.

The Fassbinder BRD set is currently out of print pending an upgrade.

Hopefully we'll get this and Lili Marleen on BLU in the next year.

The State of Things is, um, an interesting film. It won the Golden Lion at Venice, but it has a minimal narrative and was shot on a very low budget. I haven't seen it in years (I don't even own a copy!) and am eager to re-evaluate it. Needless to say it's not currently among my list of favorites.

Director's cut could mean anything. He may not have cut a second, but perhaps placed scenes in a slightly different sequence or changed the music or who knows what.

I'm inclined to believe there is no change between DVD and Blu, but I've yet to see any 100% confirmation which just goes to show the shitty quality of DVD reviews these days.

I just received the last of the Blus I ordered during the Barnes & Noble sale--Secret Sunshine. Although it states on the back of the case that there's a booklet, one didn't come with my copy. Has anyone else bought this title and found that you're missing a booklet?

I dropped Jon M. an email letting him know. Hopefully it was an oversight and not endemic to the run.
