Blu-ray has been on the market for four years now. We're a little past the "I'll buy anything in shiny HD" stage. If I get desperate for an HD movie I don't already own, there are thousands of better choices than Barb Wire available to me.

A special edition of the original Bring It On would be nice also.

Re: Blu-ray release announcements - Part IV

There's ALWAYS going to be catalog titles people ask "why the hell are they releasing these??!" -- but honestly I'm just glad more catalog titles will be released next year!!

I'm in for those two films as well. That's already 5 catalogs for just February, so while I too would love to get a lot more, I'm not complaining when it seems like more and more are coming.

I'd be REALLY surprised if either of these would be more than $18.99. Also, I've noticed that Amazon usually puts in a low price when they first list these "smaller" catalog titles and I pre-order them right away. I have about 6-7 catalogs pre-ordered from them now and ALL of them are priced higher now than when I pre-ordered them.

Re: Blu-ray release announcements - Part IV

I'm referring to the list price. These are ultra budget titles, so they should be debuting around $14.99, based on a $19.99 listing. But Universal has been stuck on $26.99 lately for older catalogs, which bumps these up to the $18.99 - $19.99 sale area.

I can finally delete my River Wild DVR recording. It had been showing on HBO a few times and looked pretty decent. If stuff shows up on the premium channels, that usually means a BD release is in the works.

Well, Backdraft came out at $18.99 from Amazon with the same list as these. I jumped on it and it's gone up a $1 since.

Hopefully competition will lower that. I'd be surprised if Uncle Buck or the River Wild will end up selling for $20 on their release day.

edit to add: Just checked releaselists.com and the wave that included Animal House, Blue Crush, Fast Times At Ridgemont, Out of Sight, and To Kill A Mockingbird are also expected to be released in February. Let Me In is announced for 2/1 and Mad Man Season 4 is expected in February as well and more new releases, I'm sure.

So much for things being quiet in January and February. Feb. might end up being my biggest month ever.

Good to see Universal is following WB's new 2011 lower pricing of catalog.

O boy! Anchor Bay is releasing the original and remake of I Spit on Your Grave on Feb. 8th, 2011! I knew about the remake coming in Feb but have been waiting for the original.

Re: Blu-ray release announcements - Part IV

Awesome news. Makes sense since the Elite Millennium Edition went OOP on DVD.

The UK BD release was cut, so I hope this upcoming edition is uncut and (possibly) have all the extras from the Elite release.

Re: Blu-ray release announcements - Part IV

Not sure if I need the original on Blu. I think that ME suits me just fine. I'll grab the remake once it hits $10, though. I've heard good things.

Also, Uncle Buck

It'll likely be the same transfer (much like City of the Dead).

Re: Blu-ray release announcements - Part IV

Just because they utilize the same transfer doesn't mean it will be censored the way the UK BD was.

I'm in for this if it includes the unrated cut.

That does not mean it will be uncut in the US. I believe they are sharing the cost of the transfer (Anchor Bay and Arrow). What was the ME edition like? I never owned it, but was it the same (cut) as the UK, or did the UK have more gore?

I know, I'm just saying it's possible that the restoration was done with an uncensored version of the film, and the cuts to the UK BD were made post factum.

In terms of comparing Elite's DVD release (completely Uncut) vs. the 2 previous UK DVD releases, the UK releases were cut (with shot substitutions added **~4 minutes worth**).

http://dvdcompare.net/comparisons/film.php?fid=1702

The new UK BD has 2 minutes & 54 seconds cut, also with shot substitutions.

http://hcc.techradar.com/playback/bl...eview-23-09-10

Suffice to say that this Blu-ray runs for 100m 21s and features enough obvious edits and clumsy shot substitutions during the rape scenes to make you instantly aware that changes had been made.

Re: Blu-ray release announcements - Part IV

I'll get Uncle Buck as its a favorite and John Candy is one of my favorite actors but, its a shame it appears to have crappy special features. It would be nice to get something on remembering John Candy, deleted scenes, or any kind of extras really.
