Anyone else have audio issues with PS3?

I've had the same thing happen to me with several discs. I remember Space Cowboys doing it, and now 24: Season 7 discs did it. It makes no sense. Put in a disc, and there's no audio in menus or in the actual video. Eject the disc and put it back in, the audio works fine. It pisses me off.

More specifics? Are they BDs or DVDs? Or both? Does it happen with games? With the basic system software? Does restarting the PS3 help? Maybe it's an issue with your receiver or TV, have you tried switching them off and on or changing inputs? What kind of cables are you using? HDMI? Optical? RCA?

BDs. Like I said, eject the disc and put it back in it'll work. I've had it happen with games too, come to think of it (Metal Gear Solid, for one). HDMI connection on an Onkyo TX-SR604 to a Samsung S5087W(?) 50" DLP.

Check any settings on your TV that may make this occur. It either sounds like a handshaking issue or an issue with the PS3 itself. If it is the latter, there isn't much you can do other than sending in to get fixed.

I've had my PS3 for about a year and a half and have never encountered that.

If you find out what's causing it let us know! Good luck!

First try changing inputs on your receiver then your TV. (ie from DVD to TV and back to DVD) I don't mean the cable, I mean just the input you have selected. It could be a handshake issue.

Also try reseating your HDMI cables. Maybe one of them is loose.

Also, are you bitstreaming audio via HDMI or sending it as LPCM? Try setting it to LPCM, if it's not already, and see if that helps.

I have the 604 as well and get the same issue. Its an HDMI handshaking issue. If you switch inputs on the 604 to something else and then back, your audio will sync.

Well, there's one more thing on my list of things about the Onkyo that annoy me. Hopefully, I'll be able to get a Denon in a couple months.

I have a Denon, so getting a Denon will not necessarily solve your issues. I've had intermittent audio issues since the 2.70 update. Movie load times are longer, the key tones no longer work on the XMB and I have the same issue you do with discs not playing audio occasionally. I also have an anthology game title (The Ultimate Genesis Collection) that plays sound effects but no music. I started a help thread in Video Game Talk but no one could help.

I believe the last update messed up my PS3 since none of these problems occurred before then.
