re: Heat: re-release slated for 5/9/17
It sounds like it based on the review I linked to a couple posts up
The release is sourced from a new 4K remaster of Heat which was supervised by director Mann. I did some extensive comparisons between the original U.S. release from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment and this new release and can confirm that there are indeed some very obvious discrepancies between the two. If you have a very large screen or a projector you will immediately notice improvements in terms of depth and fluidity.
I am little surprised that this new Director's Definitive Edition of Heat did not get a 4K Blu-ray release. I think that the new 4K master is very good and the Blu-ray release represents a very strong upgrade in quality, but I am also convinced that a 4K Blu-ray release would have made the difference even more obvious because various color nuances would be a lot more prominent in 4K.

That's all I'm waiting for now. And with Atmos. This needs Atmos. Sucks they didn't upgrade the sound on the blu or I'd probably pick the blu up now.

It seems like every time I watch this movie the audio sucks. It always seems like the effects are fine but the dialogue is drowned out and hard to hear.

Even though it didn't get an Atmos track, there is a slight upgrade in audio this time around. Dolby TrueHD 5.1 (48kHz, 16-bit) for the old release and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 (48kHz, 24-bit) for the new one. The old release got a 4.0 rating for sound while the new release got a 5.0.

I watched the new release last night. This one fixes that previous issue. The PQ upgrade may be debatable, but the new mix alone makes this essential.

The amazon.com site is showing this in bilingual packaging. I usually only see that on .ca
