Hannibal Lector Anthology from MGM: 9/15/09

From Blu-ray.com:

In an early announcement to retailers, it has been revealed that MGM Home Entertainment will release a set of highly-appreciated horror movies on September 15: 'Child's Play', 'Misery', and 'The Hannibal Lecter Anthology', which will include 'Manhunter', 'The Silence of the Lambs' and 'Hannibal'. No spec information is available at this time.

Very cool. If the price is right, I'll be in for Childs Play and the Lecter films (minus SOTL which I already have). Hoping these are all MPEG4.

I also gave Misery and Child's Play their own separate thread: http://forum.dvdtalk.com/hd-talk/555...ml#post9469352

If they did a new transfer for SotL I might grab this. I'm not a big fan of Hannibal and I haven't watched Manhunter enough to care that much right now.

I might grab Hannibal if these are going to be available separately (hard to tell from the original post).....

I'd blow somebody for a copy of "Manhunter" separate of the Anthology*.

*I mean that figuratively, not literally. Don't PM me.

I haven't bought SOTL so I might get the Lecter Anthology, but only if all of the features are included on the Hannibal BD.

I'll get Hannibal, already have SOTL.

Nice finally i will have childs play in widescreen, here is hopeing that they have all the 20th anniversry special features included.

thats awesome about the hanibal lecter anthology as well, i havent bought silence yet, so i will hold out for the boxset.

its just ashame that there can never be a definitive hanibal lecter box set, since RedDragon, and Hannibal Rising are released by two different studios.

Oh and to finally have a widescreen copy of Misery is pretty cool also

FYI, if they don't include all the Child's Play extras, at Wal-Mart they have a Carrie/Child's Play double feature and it has all of the features from the Special Edition and 20th Anniversary Editions, respectively (Carrie also being notably shafted in the Blu-Ray special features department).

You didn't mention the best of the trilogy, Manhunter.

;)

The kind released by a studio that doesn't own the rights to those two movies.

I've got the Anchor Bay special edition and I don't think it's aged terribly well.

What do you mean? Michael Mann's "Miami Vice" adaptation of a Thomas Harris novel where Lecter lives in a circular all white sanitarium? ;)

And BTW, the movie is called Hannibal Rising not "Young Hannibal".

It does include Hannibal, and I would much rather have Red Dragon over Manhunter. (I know Red Dragon is owned by Universal)

Agreed, a relic of the 80's. SOTL is the only one I really need, and I've already got it. I will rent Hannibal though, that should look really nice in HD.

I think you're both wrong. It's no more a relic of the 80s than SOTL is a relic of 1991. But I haven't watched it for awhile, so will view it tonight and apologize if needed.

No need to apologize if needed, it's only my opinion... I think Michael Mann films are generally overrated anyways.

Michael Mann is hit and miss, and Manhunter is middle of the road for him. But I think the Miami Vice lighting really dates the film terribly.

Re: Hannibal Lector Anthology from MGM: 9/15/09

Young Hannibal was the working title of Hannibal rising, as well as the title it went by in several overseas markets. so just cause its not called young hannibal where you are at doesnt mean that was not the title other people know it as. though i do see he is in texas(perhaps he has an import dvd or hd dvd )

Hannibal Solo
A George Lucas and Thomas Harris collaboration

Watched Manhunter last night. I'll come down off of an earlier "almost as good as SOTL" to a "still easily better than Hannibal, Red Dragon, and Hannibal Rising".
