Adventureland ------> 8/25/09 - MSRP $44.95

It now looks like MSRP on Day and Dates has moved up to $44.95 on all Disney/Mirimax films. Just wonderful.

Greg Mottola's Adventureland will whirl its way onto Blu-ray Disc August 25, day-and-date with DVD.

Adventureland is a comedy set in 1987 at an amusement park where shenanigans ensue. It stars Kristin Stewart of Twilight and New Moon fame along with Jesse Eisenberg, Martin Starr, Bill Hader, Kristen Wiig, Margarita Levieva, and Deadpool himself Ryan Reynolds.

Miramax is lavishing Adventureland with a extensive Blu-ray treatment that includes roughly double the number of bonus features as will be found on the DVD edition. The extra content won't come cheap with retail pricing set at $44.99.

The complete list of supplements with Blu-ray exclusives noted is as follows:

* Lisa P's Guide to Style (BD exclusive)
* Welcome to Adventureland: Commercials, Orientation Training Video Extended Cut, Drug Policy (BD exclusive)
* Frigo's Ball Taps: A satiric "how to" on inflicting unexpected groin pain (BD exclusive)
* Song selection (BD exclusive)
* Digital copy (BD exclusive)
* Deleted scenes with optional commentary
* Just My Life: The Making of Adventureland
* Soundtrack Selection
* Commentary with writer/director Greg Mottola and Jesse Eisenberg

Tech specs for Adventureland on Blu-ray reveal a 1.85:1 1080p transfer and 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio 48kHz/24-bit sound mix.

$44.99? Ouch...at best that's a sale price of $29.99 or $32.99.

This is complete bullshit. Di$ney strikes again! I loved this movie, but there's no fucking way I'm paying $30+ for this. I will buy the dvd instead. If Disney wants me to buy their BDs, they're going to have to give me a good price. $45 list price is a complete joke.

It will either be a rental for me or something sub $20. I like Stewart (and Eisenberg) but won't pay $30+ for a blind buy.

I thought the movie was hilarious, but I'm not buying any Disney BDs with that kind of pricing.

I was fully planning to blind buy this, but for $44.99 (or whatever it is on sale) I'll pass until it hits $24.99 or less. This is absolutely absurd.

I want to be all outraged like everyone else, but my lack of willpower wins over. This probably still is my favorite movie of '09 so far, so it will likely be an instant purchase.

Haven't seen the movie and didn't know the studio that released it but when I saw the thread title, my first thought was "Di$ney!"

At that price, this is a day one rental.

But it won't matter since Disney never releases any catalog titles on Blu-ray!

just cause the msrp is 44.95 doesnt mean anything, most likely you will be able to get this for 25.99 to 28.99

Well, the list price isn't meaningless, and it generally means a higher street price as well. The $27.99 that Amazon is selling Race to Witch Mountain for is $4-5 higher than it would be if it was $35 list like they used to be. For an extreme example, Gone with the Wind has an $85 MSRP, but why should we complain when it's "only" $59 at Amazon?

I know, we can wait for sales, but a) we shouldn't have to, and b) if the price was lower, a sale would make it lower still. So we'd we waiting until it gets to a reasonable price, instead of going below that. It also doesn't help that BDs take longer than DVDs to reach catalog pricing.

The problem I have isn't so much with the bargain hunters anyway. What concerns me is that this is going to make places like Best Buy and Wal-Mart charge even more than they're charging now, and this is going to hurt the format's mainstream acceptance. The average joe will see a $35 (or more) price, laugh, and put it back down. I'm beginning to think they really want this to be a niche format.

I still haven't seen it. It didn't look good to me, but who knows... I might enjoy it.

The price is obviously too high and I will rent it first and wait for a sale if I like it enough to own.

It left here ages ago.

I really enjoyed the film, too, but for that price I'll pass.

Defending price increases? That doesn't make sense.
