Looks like Disney is in the game of upping MSRPs for these 3 disc 1 BD, 1 DVD, 1 DC) releases. Race to Witch Mountain has a MSRP of $44.95 along with the Jonas Brothers 3D concert. Awesome. Monsters Inc., which will only include a DC, has also raised MSRP to $44.95 per Amazon.com.

Unbelievable... esp with these kinds of family films...aren't they the least likely to pay these prices?

Shit- that's higher than they would've been on laserdisc.

I think I saw one Disney BD+DVD+Dig. Copy release where they spelled out the "value" of the package-- i think it was listed as ~$80. I think I gave a nice big LOL when I saw that in the store. Clearly the "value" is tabulated with component SRP prices, which is simply retarded. If (hypothetically, there is a stand-alone Blu-ray release) I have the film on Blu-ray, there is diminished value to the other components. After all, I possess the film once already-- and on Blu-ray.

Disney is getting on my nerves.

I just completed a consumer research panel survey, which took over forty minutes, focused exclusively on Disney's premium Blu-ray editions. Many questions involved price points like this and whether the inclusion of a dvd and digital copy were purchase-motivators for me. Apparently Disney's internal marketing applies four different levels of features to differentiate a release.

My impression is that Disney is going to try and price their Platinum editions as high as they possibly can going forward.

I saw that as well

Blu-ray = $39.99
DVD = $29.99
Digital Copy = $9.99

ALL OF THE ABOVE FOR $44.95 MSRP! WHAT A DEAL!

Sigh. I really need to go through and sell my DC/DVDs that I get with the Blu-rays. I will never watch the DVD and the DC is useless because I won't watch a movie on a tiny screen when I have the Blu-ray at home.

They already have - Monsters Inc. has raised its MSRP $5.

Monster's Inc. will be presented on two discs while A Bug's Life will only require one. The difference will be reflected in the suggested retail price: $39.99 for A Bug's Life and $40.99 for Monster's Inc.
Well, its been raised $4. Not sure why they were going to charge $1 more for Monsters. Inc anyway.

That's absurd. Luckily retailers seem to have no problem doing massive markdowns on these titles.

Edit: And also lucky no one actually needs to own Race to Witch Mountain as it was pretty bland.

A Bug's Life is $29.99 next week at Best Buy - not mentioned in Target's ad.

Maybe not on release day, but you can usually find good sales in the weeks following.

Me neither. I really wish they'd make versions with and without this stuff.

I'd only possibly bite at $16 or less after sales/coupons.

The best hint of a product going mainstream is the raising of MSRP....um, wait a minute, no it's not.

also... I "thought" we were in a recession Disney raising the MSRP is a boneheaded decision. But of course that usually doesn't stop the masses - it's always about the children... the children!

Seriously. Or if they're going to load it with all that crap couldn't they at least include the original two films? (which are not available on Blu-Ray at all)

It does not matter if we like them or not - Disney wants to make money and adding a DC or DVD and upping the MSRP is the way to do it. They have been cutting back on Special Features as well since the last 2 Disney Day and Dates BDs I got had 30 minutes total. What a load of crap.
