A solid 'meh'. I'll get it for my DigiBook collection but nothing really that exciting. Looks like it ports over the HD DVD green screen as well as some new PiP stuff and drops PCM for a TrueHD track.

So you're getting it just because of the package it's in? Why? If I make a blu-ray and put it in a digibook, will you buy it from me?

I thought the PCM track kicked ass on the original BD - no need to double dip here.

I'm still learning BD audio formats. What is the big difference here?

That's a terrible cover.

Nothing audio-wise.

TrueHD is like a zip-file that contains a PCM track - it just takes up less space on a disc.

An example would be the PCM size for this film is 10GB while a TrueHD track is 6GB. Unless its been re-mixed (and that's only happened a few times on Blu-ray/HD DVD re-release) you won't hear the difference. PCM has pretty much been abandoned for TrueHD/DTS MA since they take up less space, most players can now internally decode them, and studios are happy getting incentives to choose a certain audio over another (Disney for example switched from Dolby to DTS late last year).

That's a horrible cover. The movie may have been shallow but it was visually striking. They should have used that onesheet where the Spartans were knocking their enemies over a cliffside as the cover.

The current blu-ray has both TrueHD and PCM.

Eh, I never picked up the Blu-Ray of this, so I might end up picking this up (although admittedly, the cover art could be better).

I REALLY hope that cover goes, but I will most likely update my HD-DVD copy.

Are they still doing the ultimate collectors set in blu-ray like they did for SD?

Yeah, I'll stick to my current version. I love the movie, but no need to double dip here.

Re: Warner Double-Dips: "300" DigiBook -----> 7/21/09

Besides the audio tracks, are all of the features on the original release also included in the Digibook version?

Is anything on the 300: Limited Collector's Edition DVD set, like "To the Hot Gates: A Legend Retold", not included on the Digibook release?

I have all 3, unopened, and am decided what to keep and why.

I've been noticing this myself. Sort of a little poetic payback for the last decade of exclusive Dolby control.

Happy to see this new release. The original should soon be easily to find near the $5 range.

The digibook has all the features of the standard BD, plus it adds a picture-in-picture commentary and a three-pronged picture-in-picture/pop-up featurette and trivia track -- which breaks down and expands upon the To the Hot Gates: A Legend Retold doc.

Basically you're losing the book (although I'm sure some of it has been shrunk and edited as to form the digibook), cards and such.

The cheaply gift wrapped releases are considered a different "edition" now?
