Rome and Sopranos Season 1 Coming to Blu-ray this Winter

http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=2668

"We have learned through inside sources that HBO is planning to release 'Rome' on Blu-ray this winter as part of a gift set that will include both seasons of the critically acclaimed series. Additionally, we have learned that they are also preparing to release 'The Sopranos: Season One' on Blu-ray for a winter release..."

Hopefully Carnivale will get similar treatment to Rome.

Crap. I wonder if I should start selling all my old SD Sopranos seasons...

A complete series set of Rome is the best news I've heard in a long time - hopefully it won't cost an arm and a leg though.

Hell - even if it DID cost an arm and a leg, this is the best news I've heard in a long time. I'd probably throw in a nostril.

I hope Rome has the rediculously awesome packing that the DVD's have, otherwise there is no way I can part with the DVD's once I upgrade them to Blu.

I got it last Christmas, and I think the quality is great. The sting will lessen by the time the complete Blu-ray set comes out, which I don't anticipate happening within the next few years (if they're releasing season-by-season sets now).

Re: Rome and Sopranos Season 1 Coming to Blu-ray this Winter

I've had the Sopranos sets since they came out individually so I don't mind upgrading. My only concern is HBO not finishing the set and being stuck with half DVD, half BD. I expect Seasons 1 and 2 and even 3 will sell fairly well but 4 and 5 were not really well received.

Exactly why I waited on getting Rome. I will still likely be waiting some more though...for a decent price.

ROME will be mine!! I hope they add more features to it and give it a unique packaging. I will keep my SD also. Maybe give them to my sis.

I'm thinking the same thing. All though the pull-out of the DVDs is annoying, those boxes are sweet & look so nice on the shelf.

I love this show so much though, I have to upgrade to Blu & to do so, I likely will sell the SD box sets.

In for Rome, but I'll likely wait to see if Best Buy does their annual 50% HBO sale around the holidays.

Re: Rome and Sopranos Season 1 Coming to Blu-ray this Winter

No love for Carnivale?

Rome is up for preorder at Amazon with no release date with a $139.99 MSRP. The price with a 30% off is $97.99. Not too bad if you ask me.

I saw Rome in HD during its season 2 broadcast and it was pretty sweet. This will be mine!

Glad I'm only buying Blu-ray titles these days. Looking forward to Rome.

The Sopranos should've been on Blu-ray a long friggin' time ago.

Remember, Band Of Brothers dropped like a stone just 3 weeks after being released. I hope the same thing happens with Rome.

So the BD pre-order is just a few dollars more than what they're STILL selling the two regular DVD versions for. HBO is always so slow in reducing the prices of their series. It gets frustrating. The amazon HBO week sale where I got the complete Deadwood for $65 was one of the happiest DVD buys of my life.

Re: Rome and Sopranos Season 1 Coming to Blu-ray this Winter

Can't wait for 'The Sopranos' (and not just because the first DVD set doesn't really look all that great). I wonder if they'll stick with the 'Complete First Season' title or if they'll change it to "Season One' to match the 'Season Six' sets they've already released.

Have zero interest in 'Rome', though. But if it sells well enough, that'll put enough money in HBO's bank accounts to finance BR editions of 'Six Feet Under', 'Carnivale', 'The Wire' and 'Deadwood', so I encourage everyone who isn't me to buy at least one copy.
