I was hoping that the upcoming remake might lead to the original being released on Blu-ray, which is still possible. In the meantime, I've got the 1080i file from the HDTV broadcast, which looks pretty decent.

The director of Fright Night also recorded a commentary and released it for free online, which I believe I have somewhere on my computer.

He actually recorded two:

Fright Night commentary with Writer/Director Tom Holland, Stars Chris Sarandon (Jerry Dandrige) & Jonathan Stark (Billy Cole), moderated by Tim Sullivan

Fright Night commentary with Writer/Director Tom Holland, Stars William Ragsdale (Charley Brewster), Stephen Geoffreys ("Evil" Ed Thompson) & FX Artist Randall William Cook, moderated by Jeremy Smith (Mr. Beaks from Ain't It Cool News.com) & hosted by Tim Sullivan

Re: Friday the 13th Part II and III ----> 6/16/09

Some more (virtually) non-BD news over at Fridaythe13thFilms.com:

Upcoming Friday The 13th Blu-Rays, DVDs & Boxset From Paramount

So we know a bastard cropped reissue of the reboot is coming from New Line’s home division but over in Paramount land plans are afoot to drop a stack of Friday the 13th releases onto the market on October 4. Now obviously you know that Paramount will almost always disappoint you, so no never-on-blu-ray releases. Let’s take a look at what they are pooping out, then.

Friday the 13th DVD Collection
Amazon have no information on this – but DVD Empire have more, including a fair price of $37. The proper name is Friday The 13th: 2011 DVD Collection – Limited Edition Gift Set and the product item page gives a description. Neither site list a number of discs, presently.

Return to Crystal Lake like never before with Friday the 13th Kill. . .Kill. . . Kill. . . Collection Limited Edition DVD box set. They’re all here: from the first Friday the 13th: Uncut to Friday the 13th: Jason Takes Manhattan. Re-experience the terror and the gore from the exhaulted executioner who never dies in this definitive collection of all 8 of the Friday the 13th films.

Okay, that’s not too shabby. The From Crystal Lake To Manhattan boxset from 2004 is out of print so this would collect the Deluxe Editions into one set. And that will be handy for those that don’t have ‘em, especially considering some of the later entries are now scarce themselves.

Friday the 13th Blu-ray & Friday the 13th DVD
The 1980 original will be back on the market in what is presumably a reissue. Can we get some better cover art then the Deluxe Edition, Paramount? Although it looked certifiably badass, the killer on the cover looked like they were wearing black leather. And I don’t know about you but the thought of Mrs Voorhees all leathered up makes me throw up in my mouth a little. Oh okay, and a little turned on.

Friday the 13th Part 3 Blu-ray & Friday the 13th Part 3 DVD
Hopefully it’s just Amazon’s lazy, inaccurate placeholder details but they are listing the ratio for these as 1.85:1 when the previous releases were 2.35:1 which was what the film was shot in. If it carries through with a cropped 1.85:1 ratio, I don’t have to tell you why that’s a bad thing for purists. In an ideal world Paramount would use these re-releases to offer up a better 3D print. The existing one was lambasted.

Friday the 13th Deluxe Edition Four-Pack
Coming earlier than the others on September 20, this will contain the first four Deluxe Edition DVDs. It’s a simple enough dumping of old stock. Of minor note, DVD Empire already stock a blu-ray version of that upcoming set, called Friday the 13th: 4 Movie Collection. It’s part of a Paramount Blu-ray sale and is listed as having only 1 Disc. While I would love to report that Paramount just discreetly dropped Friday The 13th: The Final Chapter onto the Blu-ray format, there’s evidence on that page to suggest it is a glitch on DVD Empire’s part and the release is actually just the first film with an incorrect product title.

When will Paramount learn? Maybe after they’re done whoring Star Trek, their “respectable” genre franchise. Anyhow, someone must have fucked up by letting some of those Deluxe Editions turn out so good! Think we’ll get parts 4-8 on Blu-ray before there’s another format jump? Let us pray.

No problem, they're pretty entertaining. I'm glad someone was able to track down Stephen Geoffreys.

atleast give us 4, 5 and 6 allready geesh.
I do have to admit i would mind a rerelease of 3 if they were updating it with a 3D bluray transfer.
I wonder if the reissue of 3 will ditch the anaglyph 3D and be strictly 2D

Re: Friday the 13th Part II and III ----> 6/16/09

well according to an article over on fridaythe13thfranchise.com
the remaining blurays will supposedly hit 2012.
If it turns out to be true then atleast we will have them atlast but what i think really sucks is that while we get stuck with the 1-3 reissues, the same day dvd owners will be able to get a brand new boxset with 1-8 or they can opt for a 1-4 boxset.

And now the same site is reporting that the remaining films will NOT be receiving Blu-ray releases this year. From here:
It is news no one wants to hear or read about, but the fact that fans have not had the opportunity to purchase the Paramount Blu-Ray releases of Friday The 13th: The Final Chapter through Friday the13th Part 8: Jason Takes Manhattan has been a huge sore spot for fans the past three years. This writer contends that the DVD releases of these films are perfectly reasonable to own and are a great addition to the Friday The 13th film library with loads of extra content. The picture and sound quality for the 2009 Deluxe DVD releases are superb compared to earlier DVD releases, so you are urged to track this down and purchase them now. Here is the big reason why.

Paramount Pictures will not be releasing the Blu-Ray discs for the aforementioned remaining Paramount films anytime soon! We are told that it is basically a matter of financial viability. Simply put, it is believed that the studio will not make back enough money to produce Blu-Ray discs of the films. Internet piracy is the main cuprit as many of our readers know someone that enjoys downloading films illegally online. The practice is all but killing the home video market and Paramount is wary of this. So, how can we get these long sought after films on Blu-Ray? Much the same way we got the Deluxe Edition DVD's and Blu-Rays the first time around, a new sequel in theaters.

We were informed that if Warner Brothers decides to greenlight a new sequel, then Paramount would be interested in releasing the other films on Blu-Ray. A brand new film raises awareness and creates an overall public need for the films on home video. One other way to possibly get The Final Chapter onward up to Jason Takes Manhattan released on Blu is for a huge critical and financial success of the new Crystal Lake Memories documentary. Although it seems less likely for the documentary to spearhead Blu-Ray resurgence for the Friday The 13th films, it is a possibility. Of course, this could all change at a drop of a hat, but the simple fact stand of right now, that sadly, Paramount will not be releasing the Blu-Rays for the remaining Paramount Friday The 13th films in this calendar year. Beyond is another possibility.

Re: Friday the 13th Part II and III ----> 6/16/09

Paramount sucks ass to begin with. Seems like they release hardly any catalog titles. Really disappointed that we won't be getting these. I especially want at least The Final Chapter but would gladly buy them all. Seems like a good time to put some of their catalog out this year with it being their 100th Anniversary.

Fuck you, Paramount. Fuck you with that spikey dildo from Se7en.

I never bought those new SE DVDs because I was holding out for them on BD. Now I'm thinking I should just cave and grab 'em. At least they're all cheap at Big Lots.

No shock there. Little to no money in catalog anymore.

Shit, at least give us Part IV.

Not that I want them that much but I'm a bit surprised Warner/New Line didn't put out Jason Goes to Hell and Jason X with the release of the remake a few years back. Not my favorite entries in the series but I'd take them.

Paramount just needs to farm them out to another company that specializes in catalog titles. Very disappointed.

That's what I'm hoping for. These have been done and ready to go since 2009.

shit, just hand it over to Twilight Time, bump up the production number to 5,000 and let the feeding frenzy ensue. This maybe Paramount Home Video's cashcow, but the way they treat it, with complete disdain and ignorance is beyond ridiculous.

I might pay $30 for a 3D Blu-Ray of Part 3. Meaning REAL 3D Blu-Ray, not that red/blue crap.

I'd maybe pay $30 for The Final Chapter as it's probably my overall favorite entry in the series.
