Re: Fox/MGM Catalog Titles in June and July 2009
Out of all those titles only "Towering inferno" has any interest for me. I had an original release bare bones non-anamorphic DVD copy that I sold but the movie really rocks.
I could never understand how such a crappy transfer and sound yet was THX mastered.

ROADHOUSE -
From the UK magazine DVD REVIEW Issue 68 - remembering the '80s - page 47 :
'Four Frat Pack movies you'd do well to avoid : MANNEQUIN, SOUL MAN, RED DAWN and ROADHOUSE = "Possibly the most unintentionally hilarious and homoerotic action movie ever made. Patrick Swayze stars in thie monstrously dated hymn to country music and big hair, unwisely trying to do and Eastwood as enigmatic nightclub bouncer Dalton
OH.... I understand why its a REQUIREMENT NOW

and I'd love it Dumbland would get a BD release just to hear people complain about the PQ quality compared to Kung Fu Panda.

Crap, crap, crap. Went through and deleted a whole bunch of stupid arguments about MPEG-2.

I just rewatched my VC1 HD DVD of The Graduate...I really hope MGM remasters this baby and gives it MPEG4. While the HD DVD was a huge improvement over the previous DVD editions it still looked like it could have used a bit more TLC. Hopefully they don't pull an 07 MPEG2 encode.

All you have to do is follow three simple rules in the Fox/MGM Catalog Titles in June and July Thread. One, never underestimate your opponent. Expect the unexpected. Two, take it outside. Never start anything inside the Fox/MGM Catalog Titles in June and July Thread unless it's absolutely necessary. And three, be nice.

Any word on what will be on the Road House blu-ray, I'll be buying it no matter what, but will it have all of the DE dvd extras? At least the Kevin Smith commentary?

I hope the extras from The Towering Inferno special edition that came out a few years ago get carried over to the Blu. I only have the crappy non-anamorphic version.

Slightly OT - but Summit is releasing a Paul Simon concert (Paul Simon and Friends) on Blu-ray the same day as The Graduate. Great tie-in from a different studio!

Re: Fox/MGM Catalog Titles in June and July 2009
Hmmm, it doesn't look too bad, but it doesn't look too good either. I wonder if it's just how the film is. It seems to have a good grain structure, so at least if there is DNR it's not excessive. At first I thought I saw some EE, but then I thought it was just the photography. One of the telltale signs of EE is if you can see halos on the borders, and I'm not seeing those here. It's strange how the color timing is so different between the releases, in particular the most recent DVD and this disc.
I think it's a worthy purchase for $16, especially if, like me, you never got it on DVD. I passed on the old non-anamorphic DVD, and by the time the 40th anniversary edition came around, I decided to just wait for the BD.
