Any update on that new Transformers release?

A few months ago it was announced the IMAX cut of Transformers was gonna be released on BD? Gone abit quiet on the update.

Has anyone heard anything new?
I still have my HD-DVD but would love to get the new one as the upgrade.

I also heard it was coming out, but that was a while ago.

Does anyone know what the extra footage was, exactly? I heard it was only around 4 extra minutes but even IMDb doesn't state what was added.

It was never "official"...

I wouldn't be surprised if Paramount decides to hold a re-release for after the third film comes out for a crazy trilogy set or something...

Oh, I think they will do a re-release when the second film comes out just to toss a free ticket in and maybe an extra feature or two...I'm just saying it was never "officially" announced.

Eek. As it is Michael Bay has been saying the 3rd wouldn't be hitting theaters until 7/4/2012. That's a long wait!

Back when the IMAX release was due in theaters, Michael Bay mentioned that the bulk of the added footage was more scenes with Sam's friend (the blonde guy who didn't want Sam to pic up Mikaela) and a scene inside the pawn shop where Lennox gets the walkie talkies just before the final fight in mission city.

There was supposed to be a few other scene extentions but apparently those were the major ones. Sounds like waste of money if it does get a BD release.

So, I'm guessing since Transformers 2 coming out in just over a month, an extended cut release of the first movie on BD isn't going to happen...

Any new news about this? I'll just break down and buy the current BD if they aren't planning on re-releasing this until the third film is released.

I dunno, but from the sound of the extra footage I don't think you're missing much. The last thing this film needed was more footage with humans. No extra robot action = no care.

Re: Any update on that new Transformers release?

Yeah, it was just more human scenes. The closest there was to extra robot stuff was just Sam getting used to his new car. So basically more radio gags. But this is all prior to Sam realizing Bumblebee is an Autobot. Honestly, the reason the radio gags in the first film worked was because they didn't overuse them. More would definitely ruin it.

As for the pawn shop scene, it was played for laughs. So basically we'd go from a new funny bit of Lennox buying the walkie talkies to an old funny bit of Epps bitching about the walkie talkies. Given how excessively funny the second act of the film was, reducing the amount of gags during the third act was a wise choice. Honestly, Bay should have just released these as deleted scenes along with Amaury Nolasco's deleted death scene (which can be briefly seen in one of the trailers) that apparently was not reintegrated into the extended cut.

Basically, Dreamworks'/Paramount's extended IMAX cut of Transformers was as worthless as Fox's extended cut BD of Max Payne.

I found this little tidbit on Wikipedia:

The film was released on IMAX on September 21, 2007, with an additional two minutes of footage that were not included in the general theatrical release.
So, yeah, not much of an extended cut.

The new footage was pointless. Don't know why a ruthlessly efficient director like Bay even shot it.

I have seen the IMAX version and remember the scenes.

Just didn't want to buy the old version and the IMAX cut was released the next day!

When has Bay ever been an "efficient" director? All his movies are bloated to the point of nausea. Why do something once when you have enough money to do it 35 times?

the preview for next week's ABC tv airing of 'Transformers' during 'Flash Forward' makes mention it is the longer 'IMAX' cut that is being broadcast.

Armageddon DC had only 1min of extra footage. So, accordingly, this is TWICE as much footage.
