See for yourself. Take a look at the captures at DVD Beaver: http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film2/DVDRe...on_blu-ray.htm

Make sure to click on the BD caps to see the full resolution, because otherwise you can't really see the difference.

Well, I have all of Criterion's current blu-ray releases, and yes, I do prefer the new clear plastic cases to the cardboard cases that were first used, but I've never had a problem straightening out the cardboard on those cases. It's just paper... it can be bent back into shape. The slant's just due to the nature of paper/cardboard and being wrapped so tightly with the cellophane. It doesn't prevent me from enjoying Criterion's movies one bit, that's for sure.

Similar storyline but when it comes to visual style, the two couldn't be more different - and since he was asking mostly about visual pop, comparing it to Gump isn't the right ballpark IMO. Not only are the effects more impressive, the whole scope of the camera work, the colour palette and the world created are much larger than Gump and should make this a great blu-ray to show off a system.

Can the clear cases be bought yet?

The storylines aren't even close. One is an idiot who somehow finds himself placed in historical events. While the other tries to lead a quiet discreet life. I can't see the similarities.

Even if they can, IIRC, they are slightly thicker compared to normal BD cases so the slip cover may not fit.

Sure, the character is different (but also somewhat similar in that he's unsure of himself, trying to find his way, manchild, etc) , but it is hard to deny the similarity of certain plot points and supporting characters. Unlike others tho I certainly didn't find it distracting at all. Can't wait to get this one.

Homerun.

As incriminating as the video clip was, it only touches on SOME of the similarities between the two films. There are many more not mentioned/shown.

Heads up for BJs Warehouse members. They have this on sale for $22.99. I got it for a super low $17.99 since I had the $5 off coupon from their quarterly magazine.

This also has DTS-HD. That's definitely due to Criterion as Paramount has only used that, maybe once, for Top Gun, which was requested by Tony Scott I believe.

The standard blue case with a black slipcover.

It's just like any other normal Blu-ray release except it says Criterion on the slip cover.

As for stock, Paramount may be having issues as several other retailers didn't get enough (if any) like they normally would. Dexter S2 and Grease are 2-7 days away from shipping for some reason regardless of when you pre-ordered.

I have work in 30 minutes so I haven't checked, but it looks like Borders won't be getting the Blu-Ray in stores either.

Granted this is based only off of their .com site listing the Blu-Ray as "Not Available In Stores"

I'll update as soon as I finish my shift tonight.

I pre-ordered Dexter S2 a couple days ago and I was surprised I hadn't got a shipping update yet. Estimated delivery isn't until late next week. First time pre-ordering off Amazon.

Its not Amazons fault...they are usually pretty damn quick. Shame this happened to CCBB as I heard it was a good film.

Amazon must really be backed up, since I ordered this on March 24th and no shipping confirmation in sight.

Actually, my preorder for Dexter shipped on time from Amazon, and I only preordered it a few days before release.

No luck with Button, but I have so much on my plate that waiting a few extra days isn't a big deal.

After watching CCBB I find that it has more in common with "Charly" aka "Flowers for Algernon" than Forrest Gump.

Ordered mine on March 30th and I'm an Amazon Prime member, yet my copy still hasn't shipped either. What the fucks going on?

Well guess the blu case definitely shows this isn't a real Criterion release. They just whored their name out, like people have been saying.

I disagree, this seems like an amazing, quality release. The documentary seems completely thorough and everything is there to indicate that this was Criterion from the get-go.
