They need to release a commercial film every now and then to help pay for their smaller, more obscure titles. I doubt Bottle Rocket made tons of money for them on BD. However, Benjamin Button will sell.

Wonder if this affect my Columbia House preorder? I am no great Bay fan but I personally would not mind a Criterion BD of Armageddon.

Re: "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" - 6/9 (?)

Another confirmation of the "Benjamin Button" blu-ray packaging is posted over at CriterionForum.org by cdnchris, and he's the reviewer for the Criterion discs over there.

"The Blu-ray for Benjamin Button comes in a standard blue case with a cardboard slip, not what Criterion usually does. Just an FYI. I'll post pics when I can but it shouldn't be too hard to picture." - cdnchris

I'm sure the packaging will look similar to the standard DVD packaging, which he has already posted. I still can't post links, or I would.

Okay, cdnchris has now posted the blu-ray packaging over at CriterionForum.org for "Benjamin Button." It's a standard blue-colored Paramount double-disc case with a black slipcover over it just like the standard DVD.

It's too bad the Blu-ray doesn't have a clear case like the 2-Disc DVD. At least we get disc art/an insert.

Yeah, it's disappointing that it's blue. It would've been nice to include the F Scott Fitzgerald story.

Its Blue - unless a different region gets the clear case.

DVD Beaver's review/comparison for the Criterion "Benjamin Button" blu-ray is now up! I can't wait to reach 50 posts so I can post something as trivial as a link.

So is this still coming out Tuesday? I can't wait to get this from Columbia House. I am really excited about finally seeing this movie now!

And thanks for the heads up on the DVD Beaver review. Those screen-captures are amazing! It should look stunning.

Wow!

The difference in quality between the SD and HD versions is startling. And this is coming from someone that's been able to notice the difference between HD and SD for quite some time...

Got mine Friday. Have yet to watch it but this is how Criterion should do all of their releases. Not only does it have a slip cover but a booklet fits just fine inside the case. The Blue case. No funky colors, just Blue.

Funky colors like... clear? And I imagine the booklet fits because it's only three pages.

Blue is a funky color.

Like Clear, or Green, or White. It was mostly a jab at someone who claimed it was in a clear case.

Re: "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" - 6/9 (?)

Is this a good "Blu Ray" buy?

I usually get movies that will pump a system in blu ray, this movie seems more story driven, and not too likely to "jump off my screen" or "shake my walls" like I want my Blu Rays to do.

Just the same, I understand there were some great CG and effects in it that could do just that.

Feedback fellas?

It will almost certainly jump off your screen, although I don't know that it will shake your walls. There are a couple of action-packed sequences, though.

Ha, not looking for both, just one or the other to get a blu ray.

I don;t blind buy Blu Rays too often, but the wife wants to see this film.

If you say it will jump off my screen, that's good enough for me.

Well my Amazon order is not at Shipping Soon status this morning, so I expect Amazon will have some stock issues on this one. Joy - I get to hunt around for it tomorrow morning.

But, Criterion is not like any regular ol' distribution company. That's what sets them apart and makes them stand-out among the other film studios that release movies. Personally, I think it's unfortunate that Criterion had to compromise with Paramount on a blue-colored case. It's not like the world's gonna come to a complete stop if all the cases on our shelves don't match, ya know? I would rather this be Criterion's first and last blue-colored blu-ray case.

You must be a fan of their straight-from-1998-digibook-like releases on Blu-ray that are a pain in the ass to get in and out of their slip cover.

Did you see Forrest Gump? It's pretty much the same movie although the visual effects are more impressive.

Or, a fan of their clear cases, which are not.

My Bottle Rocket did not come in the fancy new clear cases so I can't comment on those. All I have is a horrific digicase that has a slant to the slip cover for no apparent reason.
