Has anyone ordered from Amazon UK? I ordered about a month ago and got the whole set for just under $40 shipped. And no cardboard disc casing on that version.

Hello, new here with a question some of you ALIEN fans might be able to answer. When the film was released, I remember reading that it had to be toned down in "intensity" to avoid an X rating. Does anyone know anything about this or could you direct me to a source? So far my search has been futile. Thanks!

as far as I know, no. Wikipedia has nothing on it. It had a X rating in the UK though.

I read that originally Sigourney Weaver agreed to do the final scene in the nude but Scott nixed the idea because the movie would get an X rating.

You may be confusing that with the opening scene. The original plan was for the entire cast to wake up and de-pod in the nude, but that was cancelled for the same rating reason.

The opening sequence nudity is discussed by the actress in one of the documentaries. Scott talks about the nudity in the final scene on the commentary track.

It's a shame that he wasn't happy with it, nor that he was asked to participate, like he was with the Quadrilogy set.

With that said, though, the main thing I took from that piece was that City Of Lost Children is getting a Blu release...

I am in the minority that AR is my favorite film of the franchise.. No, not the best just the most enjoyable to me. Has anyone done an objective comparison with the BR vs the Quadrilogy version? is the BR same or worse than the SD DVD?

It is still much better than the DVD. The director is upset because apparently they used more DNR than he would have liked (but it really isn't bad).

Well then, this will be the first dip, won't it?

You do realize, I hope, that the alternative is that they never release it on Blu-ray because you already bought it on DVD, before Blu-ray existed.

There's a difference between 'third time you bought the movie' and 'triple-dip'.

I disagree, but it depends on how you look at it.

No, he's upset because they used less DNR than he wanted them to. He wanted the movie to be stripped of grain, and would no doubt have adjusted the colors as well to make all the actors bright orange. (Seriously, take a look at Micmacs. The characters are all radioactive.)

I'm not sure if anyone else noticed this, but the datastream feature on the movies seems to require a live net connection. I assumed it was just on the disc, but I lost my connection while watching Aliens and it came up with a "Please stand by" message and a "Security verification" message, which i thought was weird, and led me to discover the internet was out.

Why can't it just download the whole stream in the beginning? or maybe explicitly say somewhere that it connects to the net? Or am i wrong and this is Fox's cute way of confusing me?

I got these messages around the 1:26 minute mark, can someone verify if this is a real message?

I also get "Please stand by. Security access to DataStream reverifying. This process may take several minutes" around 1:40.

I like the artwork for alien3. I still prefer the regular dvd covers for alien1 and aliens.

Well, I read that it was intended for the final scene where she's in her skimpy panties and bra-less top. But I read it on the net so who knows.

The original Legacy box was one of the first DVD sets I ever owned and not having many DVDs at the time, what I did have got re-watched more and Resurrection was my most watched Alien movie. I fully recognize the technical and artistic superiority of the first two films over it, but Res just feels more..."fun".

Speaking of, does this Blu set make it possible to get rid of the previous DVDs? Any significant extras missing?

tks

IIRC, I think just about everything was ported over...

Yeah, the Blu-ray set is about as comprehensive as it gets. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe it includes the Alien Legacy documentary that was a limited edition mail-in bonus disc with the very first DVD box set. Given all the other extras though, that documentary is probably somewhat superfluous.

Alien Legacy is there. My set's at home but I believe it is on disc six.
