The Day the Earth Stood Still (REMAKE) - 4/7/09

http://www.thehdroom.com/news/The_Da..._in_April/4248

Last December's release of the original 1951 The Day the Earth Stood Still on Blu-ray Disc presented viewers a 7-minute clip from the new remake before reaching the menu screen. It's only fitting the remake's arrival on Blu-ray returns the favor to its inspiration.

Fox Home Entertainment has announced The Day the Earth Stood Still remake starring Keanu Reeves as Klaatu and Jennifer Connelly will be released on Blu-ray Disc April 7 in a three-disc set.

The first disc will include the feature film and bonus features and the second a digital copy. While you might think the third includes a standard DVD version of the film like Fox is including with Marley & Me as announced earlier today, you'd be wrong.

That third disc is the complete 1951 original film on Blu-ray sans bonus features. The DVD versions will also include the original film packed in with the remake. This "value added" proposition is scheduled to last for a limited time only.

Fox is presenting The Day the Earth Stood Still on Blu-ray in its original 2.35:1 aspect ratio in 1080p video and 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio. Though not confirmed, we expect to see D-BOX support either on the disc or available for download at a later day.

Two of several bonus features are exclusive to Blu-ray including a BD-J GORT game as a followup to the game available on the original film's Blu-ray release.

Klaatu's Unseen Artifacts: The Day The Earth Stood Still Picture-In-Picture Track (BD exclusive)
"Build Your Own GORT," BD-Java Game (BD exclusive)

Re-Imagining "The Day" Featurette
Unleashing Gort Featurette
Watching The Skies: In Search Of Extraterrestrial Life Featurette
The Day The Earth Was "Green" Featurette
Commentary By Writer David Scarpa

-Concept Art
-Storyboards
-Production Photos
Digital Copy

The Day the Earth Stood Still on Blu-ray will set you back around $27 or so based on the $39.99 retail price.

Horrible cover for a horrible movie. Imagine that, a special feature that is better then the main feature.

Wait a minute... this movie already came out in theaters?!

The original on BD also intrigues me... not enough to buy a Keanu movie though. I will wait to see if the original gets a separate release. I can't believe the studio would spend the dough to remaster it in HD and then not sell it separately down the road.

Umm, the original has been out on BD for over two months. I just knew there would be a bundle.

So basically you'd be paying about $7 more for the Keanu Reeves version?

Only if you don't mind missing out on all the good bonus features from the original version....according to the above info, this release will only include a barebones disc of the 1951 version, while the standalone release of that one has hours and hours of extras on it....

Hmm, not sure which one to buy now. Are the extras on the original worth it?

Personally, I don't plan to pay any extra for it. I expect to see this title on sale for as little at $14-15 dollars soon enough.

The original movie's Blu-ray has excellent special features. It's a great disc.

Re: The Day the Earth Stood Still (REMAKE) - 4/7/09

Definitely one of the worst films I've ever seen - period. Not even a "fun" movie. It just sucked, from beginning to end.

Still, it made lots of money. No surprise though.

Is it just me or does the cover art villain or whatever look like a crumpled up sock with a hole in it?

Re: The Day the Earth Stood Still (REMAKE) - 4/7/09

Even if they were giving the entire package away for free, and threw in a free lunch, I'd still pass. There is nothing on this planet or any other that could make me want to own this tripe of a movie, and their thinly-veiled attempt to artificially boost sales numbers by including the true classic version as a "special feature" only makes me that much more disgusted.

The subtitle to EVERY sequel is ALWAYS the same. For example:

The Day the Earth Stood Still 2: Electric Boogaloo
