Rumor: New Terminator 2 Release Coming Soon?

Blu-ray.com

Retailers have been alerted to a new Blu-ray release of 'Terminator 2: Judgment Day' with no release date. An "Endo Skull Edition" release was also revealed, indicating a possible limited edition version in the works as well. Now, we normally do not report on placeholders, but being that a new Terminator film is due for theatrical release this May, and industry insiders have mentioned a possible new release, we can say its a safe bet that a new Blu-ray release is on its way.

As mentioned, no firm date (or specs, for that matter) have been released, but you can bet that the studios love for timing home video releases with theatrical releases won't be lost here - a May date is looking very probable.

Originally released by Lionsgate in 2006, the current Blu-ray release of 'Terminator 2: Judgment Day' features an MPEG-2 video encode accompanied by a 6.1 DTS-ES soundtrack. Most likely, this new release will feature an AVC video encode along with a DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack, which should yield a tangible upgrade on both fronts.

Stayed tuned as we wait for official word from the studio.

Since this seems to concern BD, maybe this is the wrong forum, but if it comes in a endoskeleton skull, I'm all over this, especially if it contains all the extras from the two major existing Terminator 2 DVDs.

If it has the three versions of the film as well as the extra pulled form the extreme and ultimate editions I'm all over this...

This will undoubtedly get moved but, the new transfer better be sparkling!

Now's the chance for LG to give us the proper T2 BD. I want all 3 cuts, 7.1 DTS-HDMADNARNA sound and a fuckload of extras that'll take so long to watch the sun will supernova before I finish.

Re: Terminator 2: SE Blu Coming{rumor}

Is T2 now the most released title in the history of home video? Surely Army of Darkness (or anything else Anchor Bay own) isn't close?

It maybe the movie with the most releases, I have both the original ultimate edition and the extreme edition. but we all knew this was coming, it should be amazing with a DTS-HD track.

I still think the EXTREME EDITION of it is probably one of the best looking dvds ever. I'm still in awe of it when the T-1000 goes through the roof of the elevator. Such an awesome and good looking effect.

I dunno...there's the snapper, the Ultimate Edition, the Extreme Edition, and, if we're counting it, a double feature with T2 on DVD, plus a Blu-Ray with the TC. I'm probably missing some T2s, but either way that pales in comparison to AoD, which has the Universal TC, the Anchor Bay TC, the LE 2-Disc, the LE DC, the "Bootleg" DC, the Boomstick 2-disc, the HD-DVD Combo Format and the stand-alone HD-DVD. That's 5 to 7 in favor of AoD, and while a new T2 release would seem to close the gap, Universal's TC DVD of AoD just went out of print, which probably means a new SD and BD are in the works.

Don't forget numerous VHS releases (original release, WS, SE) plus the laserdisc releases (where the SE originally appeared). I remember renting the special edition on tape from Blockbuster years ago.

Hoping this is true, the current T2 BD flat-out sucks.

I think that the OP just made a mistake since he usually post HD news on the HD forum. And he posted the news before you, Jedi Master.

Re: Terminator 2: SE Blu Coming{rumor}

Well, I know he said "home video" but the wave of double-dips for those titles, especially AoD, is because of DVD. Plus, I don't know how many VHS there are out there of them!

Come on, Lionsgate, don't be cheap-asses. Give T2 a 2-Disc BD set.

Re: Rumor: New Terminator 2 Release Coming Soon?

Good to hear that T1 is getting a new BD. I hope they can manage to get both out at the same time. I'm not counting on LG giving T2 a 2-disc set with all the bells and whistles, but I'm hoping they do it right.

Re: Terminator 2: SE Blu Coming{rumor}

I suppose being a multi-region sort of person, I'm also thinking of the various different cuts that are only available on separate discs across the world, and the fact that we have VHS, laserdisc, DVD, D-VHS, HD-DVD and Blu Ray to look at where as I'm guessing AoD didn't have too many releases on the more obscure formats.

I'd be happy to see this. I've held off buying the current Blu-ray knowing there would be a more definitive edition down the line.
