Once again, another great effort. Thanks for forcing me to drop $40!

You people do realize it's going to be $12.99 on Black Friday at Target?

Warner only makes one set of discs for the whole world....I have seen it confirmed at a couple other forums that the UK version is identical to the two BDs from the US UCE box set.....

The version depicted in Target's BF ad for $12.99 is their exclusive one-disc regular case version.....the same one they are trying to fool people into buying this week for the ridiculous $34.99 "sale" price...

That's what I was trying to point out. Thanks for making it clearer.

Was this ever confirmed? I saw several posts in the BD Bargains thread where people claimed to have scored the 3 disc set for $12.99.

Oz is 3 disc only at Target
GWTW is 1 disc only at Target.

(some may carry the UCEs but the $12.99 price reflected the above).

The 3-disc Wizard of Oz "Emerald Edition" was indeed a $12.99 doorbuster on Black Friday. I would know, I froze my *** off for 4+ hours before the store opened to get it (and the Sony BDP-S360 @ $100 after gift cards.)

Yeah I grabbed one as well. Well worth the wait for it and the single disc GWTW.

Re: Wizard of Oz / Gone with the Wind coming to Blu-ray in the 4th quarter of 2009

Ok, just so I've got this straight...

The 1 disc GWTW BD is not only missing the books and pictures and stuff, but also an entire Blu-ray disc full of extras that came in the UCE (as well as the MGM DVD and the soundtrack sampler)? Just to clarify, all the extras from the UCE weren't crammed onto 1 BD for the 1 disc, right?

I might just have to bite the bullet and buy the UCE.

However, for Casablanca we are just missing the swag and the Jack Warner doc on the non-box set, right?

Re: Wizard of Oz / Gone with the Wind coming to Blu-ray in the 4th quarter of 2009

I was just curious about something as I consider selling my SD Gone With the Wind 4-disc. I have the UK 2-disc GWTW BD and just want to be sure that all the extras from the SD have been carried over to the BDs. I am in mid-move and all my DVDs are in boxes at the moment.

Thank you.

Everything from the four-disc DVD has been carried over to the BDs. I am planning on selling my four-disc set as well.

Re: Wizard of Oz / Gone with the Wind coming to Blu-ray in the 4th quarter of 2009

Isn't a little too soon to release another edition and put the current sets on moratorium when the last sets had everything you needed and more?

Warner Bros. has announced that starting May 1st, they will stop shipping all versions of the classic ‘Wizard of Oz’, all except the 70th anniversary 2-DVD set, which will be available until October. After that, no more Scarecrow, Tinman, Cowardly Lion or Dorothy and Toto.

But don’t worry they will be back soon, bigger and better than ever for the 75th Anniversary, which happens in 2014. Expect new DVD’s and Blu-Ray’s to start rolling out again in the fourth quarter of 2013.

Warner Bros. told ‘The Hollywood Reporter‘, “2013 will see the re-launching of The Wizard of Oz franchise in a multi-platform, unprecedented rollout that will include new and restored formats with major sponsorships and branding, as well as massive media support,”

The 70th anniversary edition DVD sold 2 million copies, so expect the relaunch to be big and capture the imagination of a whole new generation of kids.

They're just taking a page out of Disney's playbook. They've done this before.

I don't know if we can expect anything different in terms of quality or extras, but I think it's possible that they won't release a standalone DVD again, but rather a package containing the BD and the DVD, plus whatever digital copy format is in vogue then.

Do you think if you buy several copies of the Blu-ray and hold them you can sell them for a profit or it is a common product that you can still get at a cheap price during the moratorium?

I would think that when the movie comes out, if it does well, people will be keen to pick it up as cheap as possible, keeping in mind it won't be available at retail. I would think the $10 BR and $10 DVD would probably double to triple in price.

Using Tron as an example, Disney pulled all of the copies prior to Tron Legacy being released, and it was selling for $75+ on DVD for months.

Nope, sorry. I think I've dipped on this one enough, until there's a 4K upgrade or something.
