Suspiria (Import, Italy) -------> March 11th, 2009

Oh yeah!

http://www.dvdland.it/nicom1/p_55987...a_blu_ray.html

It appears to have English Subs (phew!) and possibly be region free (it lists Region 2, but we know Blu-ray is A, B or C). I'm gonna give this one a shot because my LG 200 will strip away any icky Region Coding.

I've only seen this movie with the English soundtrack, and I thought it was kind of terrible. I've often wondered if watching it in Italian with subtitles would improve the experience.

Of course, for movies like this, the subject of "original language" is a gray area since all the actors spoke difference languages on set. But Jessica Harper was speaking English on camera, and I believe English is generally accepted as the primary soundtrack for this film.

I've always watched it in English. Is there no English soundtrack on this release at all?

All we have so far is that listing...I imagine more will pop up soon and give us a more detailed look at what will be on it. I keep forgetting...who owns the US distribution rights now, Weinstein, Anchor Bay or Blue Underground?

The Weinstein Company gobbled it up a year and change ago for their Dimension Extreme label, but I haven't heard any news on that front in forever. They have a few 'classics' in their back catalog but haven't bothered with any of them on Blu-ray (Night of the Living Dead and El Cid, f'r instance) even with new DVD releases, so I'm skeptical they'd bother with Suspiria either.

The last Suspiria DVD in Italy took a lot of liberties with the brightness and color timing. I'd cheerfully import the movie, but I'd want to know if it's the proper version first. (Comparisons: http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=66235 )

If it is the proper version, I'd say a big "Woohoo!" is in order.
