The original Fifth Element Blu-ray release that is widely considered an awful transfer. I never purchased a HD DVD...

My first HD DVD would be King Kong since it came with the 360 HD DVD add on drive. I also got Planet Earth and The Ultimate Matrix on that deal from Best Buy. My first Bluray was the $100 off the purchase of 10 BDs from Amazon, picked up the 6 Bonds and 4 others. My first DVD purchase was Freejack in the bargain bin at Walmart. I ended up buying about 30 or so before I ever bought a DVD player.

The first HD-DVD I purchased was Brotherhood of the Wolf with X-mas money. My wife for X-mas of last year, got me Bourne Supremacy and the Bourne Ultimatium. I am almost off the fence about about a Blu-Ray player ( I can realistic see me buy a player within the next two months) and so the first Blu-Ray movies, I'll probably buy this week (with again X-mas gift cards) will be either The Day the Earth Stood Still and/or LA Confidential.

First HD-DVD was the Departed. I got it the week it came out which was the week before I got the player. Had to force myself not to watch it in Standard that week. Oh, I got Hulk too.

First Blu was... um, I can't remember. Spider-man 3 came with the PS3. Oh, it was "The Big Hit" ... Shut up, I like the flick. Plus, it was cheap. Second was "The Descent"..

I'm not exactly sure, but it's either The Fifth Element x2 (had to have it as it was the test DVD when I had my set professionally calibrated and took advantage of the trade-in program to get the 'corrected' video version) or Stargate (someone in my house is fond of this one).

The first Blu Ray I bought was Blade Runner. (I didn't have a Blu Ray player or drive for my computer yet, but it was on sale and I couldn't resist.)

There were so many free movie deals and mail-in rebates that which movie I purchased was not necessary the one I wanted the most. I skipped buying movies I knew I could get on the rebates. With 19 free movies from 2 HD DVD players, it was crazy.

Got the Xbox Drive + 3 Free movies deal from Amazon in August 2007. I picked up Robin Hood, Unforgiven, and The Mummy. It came with King Kong + 5 movie mail-in rebate (Casablanca and The Thing part of the mail-in). Wonderful deal, I watched all these movies 3+ times within within 2 weeks. With price corrections, and $50 GC back, this ended up costing under $50. I sold the drive + remote for $80 in November 2008 when I got the Toshiba A3.

A3 cost me $7.98 after price corrections and $50 GC plus I kept the 10 free movies (2 in box, 3 free with order, and 5 mail-ins).

I would have had to have been stupid not to jump in to this stuff with deals and movies like this. I made $20, roughly, on these deals and walked away with a A3 + 19 movies.

Blu-ray: The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.

Pre-ordered it when Family Video had it for less than $9. Didn't even have a player yet.

First Blu-ray:

Stargate - bought before I had a player (PS3)

First HD DVD:

Bladerunner - bought just after I had bought my HD A3 (but if you're counting free titles, then my first HD DVD was actually The Complete Matrix Trilogy)

Got in on the 360 HD drive with 2 additional movies deal in May of '07. So King Kong, Miami Vice, and MI3.

Got a Ps3 last February with Spidey 3 and also grabbed Casino Royale, Pixar Vol 1, and Cars with it. Not sure if it qualifies but prior to even buying the PS, I got in on the free BR for retailers deal. (Still pissed that only 1 of the 6 I did worked out.)

Serenity free with purchase of my Xbox drive (and I guess King Kong too)

Bridge to Terabithia free with purchase of my PS3 (I know, kind of random, but it seemed like the best option from the list).
