Fastest Blu Ray player?
 
I've been spoiled by the fairly fast start up of my DVD players. I'd prefer my movies ready to go as soon as I power on. So what's the fastest among BR players for start-up?

I'm pretty sure the PS3 is still the fastest BR player out there.

Yes I would have to agree. If load time is your main concern I don't think there is any faster than the PS3(it's on stand by all the time).
I don't remember if the SonyS350 or the Panasonic BD35 (I have both right now) has a setting choice for stand by but I have never tried it sense a few seconds is not a big deal to me. Just means it's like being on all the time.

Hey Supermanrob, This probably isn't the right place to ask, but I've been looking at both those players and had decided on the Panny (better reviews) However price is a big issue for me right now. I'm not seen any deals on the Panny, but I see the Sony for $150.

As a owner of both how would you rate the 2, should I hold out for the Panny?

I got a standalone, Memorex MVBD-2510, and the load times are as fast as my PS3.

For standalones, the new Panasonic 35 and Sony 550 power up and load pretty fast. Although, I've never understood why load times is such a big issue. Why is waiting 2 minutes for a movie to begin such a horrible thing?

Same here. Unless its 5+ minutes its no biggie for me. Most of the time it takes more time skipping the damn previews to get to the actual menu then the disc actually loading up.

I agree. I usually pop the disc in and then go get a drink or something.

Not me! I don't like having to wait the 40 seconds my computer boots up. Nor do I like having to wait for a DVD to get ready.

I think the Panny hands down is a better player but I don't think for an extra $100.
Now I will admit I am trying to find a good on the BD35 since I can still take the BD35 I have now back but not the S350. If I do find a deal I think I will just try to sell the S350 :D.
I read that 6ave may have a good deal on the BD35 on Friday :)

I completely agree I never understood why people have a problem with load times. People talk about how fast the PS3 is! It was only faster than the S350/BD35 on an avg of like 20 secs. What bugs me more are the previews you can't bypass with jumping forward.

Thanks for the info, I think I hold out for the Panasonic. I had store credit at Planet DVD and took advantage of their 25% sale. Now I have my first 8 blu ray disc and no player to watch them with, its killing me!

Alright so it isn't killing me, but it does bug me a little :)

I only have experience with a PS3, and yea, its really about as fast as you can ask for out of a player.

I have the PS3 and the LG BH200 which is also pretty fast. PS3 is tops for speed by far.

while i tend to agree with everyone here who feels that load up times are not a big deal, i think J6P has been conditioned to expect a nonexistent load time by SD players.

Do you have kids? Sometimes just getting the movie started and showing is worth the quick load times when you have a cranky kid on your hands.

I just bought an LG BD370 and find it very fast to boot up. Pop in the disk and when you are seated, it's playing. It's much faster than my snail-like LG Super Blu. At just over $200, from Amazon, it's a great player.

Do you have a wife? Mine just can't wait for the LG Super-Blu to start up. It's really slow, even with the latest software upgrades. I gave her an LG BD370 and now happiness is again happening in our household.

I'm extremely pleased with the Oppo BDP-83. It blows away my Panasonic.

I use an HTPC for my Blu-ray viewing. They seem to start as fast as DVDs. The longest I've ever waited has been 15 or 20 seconds, I'd say. Must be the extra processing power or something. I can't fathom having to use a standalone. Five minutes, really?
