I'd suggest an animated film, but those are a given. It's hard to find one that looks awful, except I'd say certain segments of Batman: Gotham Knight and Surf's Up (which were style choices)

But if you want to teach them about film grain first. The Godfather. Beautiful.

Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds: Live at Radio City Music Hall

-this is as flawless a concert release as you are going to see. With a properly calibrated sound system this title absolutely knocks you over. The notes just hang in the air. And visually it is simply beautiful.

I'm going to have to agree, I just watched this for the first time today, and I really really liked it.

Into The Blue ....... just looks incredible.

I usually use Into the Blue or Casino Royale. For Bond go to the Bahamas scenes, stunning. For my HD player I use Transformers and the BD is supposedly superior so that would be a good choice.

I'd definitely say even without seeing it, that I'm sure Wall-E is going to have some amazing imagery, and with it being a Disney animated release, it's going to look amazing.

Speed Racer is also a great one to show off your set. For more real live action stuff, the Kill Bill movies are pretty ace.

I agree with you on this. Baraka would be my choice to along with the Pixar movies.

I just finally upgraded to 1080p this past weekend so I haven't had a lot of experience yet with which disk I like best, but The Incredible Hulk looked really good, especially the opening pans of the city Banner was living in in Brazil. I also checked out the Jericho demo scene in Iron Man and was really impressed.

Just had the pleasure of watching Fighter Pilot: Operation Red Flag and Coral Reef Adventure. Both have excellent Video, and Fighter Pilot has an awesome surround track!

Batman Begins, show them the Dark Night intro that's included there. Absolutely amazing. That's if you are going to do it before Dec 9th.

1080p isnt always an upgrade.

I keep watching Ratatouille over and over again, if that means anything. ;)

I have Red Flag aswell and while it was good there was so many things that annoyed me and therefor reduced the impact for me but I will agree the sound was pretty kickass on the bass.

In terms of pure PQ, you're not going to beat digital animation. Personally, though, I'd go with a movie that is "most improved" by BD. So, I'd say Blade Runner. It may not be the absolute best PQ available (compared to, say, Ratatoille), but:

1. It's a 27 year old film that looks like it was shot yesterday. The restoration quality is pretty amazing for a cult catalog title.

2. Lots of people are familiar with it and will finally be able to see all the detail they're missing on later versions. Check out Deckard's (actually pretty attractive) shirt/tie combo. Check out the logos on that newspaper. Check out the tiny pinpricks of light on the Tyrell building. For people who love this movie, it's a dream.

3. The audio track has been beefed up considerably. It's both immersively atmospheric and powerful. The first boom of the credit sequence frightened my dog so much, he had to leave the room.

Sidenote: did they replace all of the spinner sequences in this with CGI? If not, they did a very complete and subtle job removing all of the matte lines etc. I though BD would be merciless in showing the limitations of 1982 optical compositing, but all of the spinner scenes look ridiculously clean.

i agree with a lot of the suggestions in this thread, but most of all with the people who suggested Speed Racer.

Speed Racer is so amazing looking in 1080p, and the colors are so bright. ive been doing a lot of demoing for people of various demographics and they all respond to that one in particular with a big wow. plus its a great movie so you wouldnt mind owning it.

I haven't hooked up a BD player to my new television yet, but I wanted to say that the store was showing Speed Racer on the model I ended up purchasing, and it looked really amazing. I haven't even seen the movie yet, but it played a big role in helping me decide which television to go with.
