Re: Last BD (or, unrealistically, HD DVD) you watched?

Although promoted now as a "noir", like most crime pictures from this era, this is really no more noir than an episode of FBI or Dragnet. Still an entertaining movie though, with the future director of The Vikings and Mr. Majestyk, among many others, giving several sequences a nice edge and snap.

Bridges, playing another heavy/anti-hero early in his career, displays abundant charisma as does the quite attractive Barbara Payton, whose short life was already in a noir trajectory by the time she made this- her breakout film.
The other male lead is played by John Hoyt, who had a busy career in all kinds of stuff, but who I'll always remember as the lone survivor of a doomed bus party in a later season Twilight Zone ep. Cool to see him as a lead here, and with a look that straddles character actor/seedier leading man, he makes for an interesting focus.

A solid

Nip & Tick, a season 4 ep from

I enjoyed revisiting some earlier eps from this Bd set, but this one was as dire as I'd expected this series to be after all these years. The Tiffany Case season was the worst in general, and this was a good example why.
Making it at all watchable was a surprisingly strong guest case (for this show)- with Louis Jordan, Tab Hunter, and a just-starting-to-slide-past-her-prime Joanna Petit.
Also worthwhile was the chemistry and by play between Ladd and Doyle playing a bitchy trophy wife pushing her cuckolded husband to get plastic surgery to fix his face .

Spider-Man: Far From Home (3D)...looks really good in 3D. Really good. Fun movie, the Mysterio reveal is like The Mandoran from IM3, not my favorite, but decent movie overall. Probably liked Homecoming more, but this is nice follow up and Tom Holland is really great at the dual role. Best of the 3. And the Aunt May and Happy stuff is gold. Tomei is so hot and I just love Favreau the actor. And Director, but always loved him in front of camera too. Remember Rudy? Him and Vince Vaughn. I wonder if they met and thus began...

Re: Last BD (or, unrealistically, HD DVD) you watched?

Alita: Battle Angel (3D)...kinda boring and generic. Didn’t get what the movie was about. One girl/cybernetic organism finding herself and becoming a roller derby champion? Seems like there should be more with Nova (who I think was Ed Norton, but uncredited for some reason) and thought I’d get that showdown, but I guess never gonna happen considering how poorly this did here, but I guess success with WW take. I guess the anime or manga series or whatever based on probably goes more into stuff. Like that war in first place. That looked interesting. This, not so much. Looked great in 3D though. Lots of depth. But the movie was so blah.

Re: Last BD (or, unrealistically, HD DVD) you watched?

Watched Disc 1 of Childhood's End while we ate dinner earlier, we'll finish it up tonight. So far, it's a great movie, the only part I didn't particularly like was them using 15 years instead of 50 to prepare humanity for the reveal. 15 years is just not enough time for that. I can put that aside though and enjoy the rest of the movie. I think they did a wonderful job with the feel of the story.
