(Night Passage)

Not really what I was expecting as there was no passage traversing all that significant to the plot, and most of the film took place in bright daylight.

It was also nothing special in regards to the story and characters, with a lot of it seeming very familiar. Overall an OK enough time killer, with some beautiful 'scope views of Colorado mountainsides and river gorges, well realized with this disc, which went a long way in holding my interest.

I watched the first Miss Congeniality after many years. I still love this movie and the whole cast seems like they are having fun.

Watched Krampus this evening. As good as I remember it being the first time we watched it.

Danny Devito should have directed more movies and Nicholson was Hoffa

Edwige Fenech has a killer body, and it's on display frequently in this. But I finally come to the conclusion that Eurotrash giallos just aren't my jam.

I had hopes for this one, hearing that it had more of a supernatural bent rather than simply being a body count slasher. Didn't matter. It still never clicked for me.

The Shameless discs has gotten a bad rap, and some sequences do look dodgey. Most of it looked OK and typical of how a lot of Italian productions from the era have been realized on disc. I have no doubt the Severin will better it, but it was watchable enough for me.

The older I get, the more I appreciate it.

The one-two punch of this right after Last Picture Show (well, with What's Up Doc? sandwiched in between) entitles Bogdonovich to strut around like a know-it-all prima dona for the rest of his days, as far as I'm concerned.
I fell in love with this while I was still in single digits, and it remains one of the most purely entertaining movies I've ever seen. Barely a false note or step in the entire run time.
The Eureka disc (Region B locked) is magnificent.

Eps 12 and 13 from

Interesting seeing this cross-adaptation of The Man Who Has Everything, and how they utilized this properties elements and characters in telling that story. The story is always affecting, but I think the way Superman TAS handled it was a little more emotionally wrenching (and for that matter, so was the Buffy TVS ep as well). Probably didn't help having to devote time to advancing several other running plots, giving the meat of it relatively curt treatment.

Re: Last BD (or, unrealistically, HD DVD) you watched?

Preacher: Season Three - I found this much weaker than the first two seasons. I own the graphic novels, but haven't read them in years. I think this kind of deviates a little bit from the comics, and I felt it became much more "out there" compared to the previous two seasons. I know we're not supposed to expect the show to be realistic, but there were quite a few moments/scenes where I was just scratching my head. It also felt like Jesse would get his ass kicked at least twice an episode and yet show little effect shortly thereafter. That said, I'd say the direction was actually really good...I just think the writers were a little bit lax this season...Also, I'd love it if they would at least include a few commentaries on one of these sets...Preferably with Catlin, Goldberg, and Rogen...And if they threw in Garth Ennis, that'd be great...

Found this enjoyable different kind of superhero movie with an anti-hero

Couldn't match the Russian scene from the first one but a decent addition. Christmas present.

Re: Last BD (or, unrealistically, HD DVD) you watched?

Any time an erudite professor delivers an earnest introduction, with charts and illustrations, to what is bound to be a schlocky story- that's a movie I just want to hug.

This one starts out with some potential as a riff on the lost civilization stories that were in vogue a generation or two earlier. By the end of the first act though any ambitions it had have well outpaced it's competence. By the start of the third act, the whole enterprise has run out of steam leading to a perfunctory wrap up.
I had forgot that Hugh Beaumont has a sizable supporting role in this. Always nice to see Beav's dad show up far outside of Mayfield.

One of the most pure "comic book" movies ever made.

I didn't realize it till midway in, but this was a film that made a huge impression on me around the same time as Paper Moon and for quite a while Jessica Harper was my first, hard, movie crush. Must have reached for it as part of some subliminal regression.
Loved it as a kid and love it just as much, if not more, now. No matter how many times I've seen it, I still marvel at just how well crafted a movie it is.
Enormous props to Paul Hirsch, as the editing in this is supernaturally adroit.

Afterwards watched the French produced retrospective doc at the end which was fun. It's great to see how much of a collaborative effort this was.

Re: Last BD (or, unrealistically, HD DVD) you watched?

Misleading title aside ( Man On The Run, or Woman On The Hunt would be more apt), this was canny little thriller. I don't see it as truly noir, it's pretty much the opposite of cynically fatalistic or existential. But it is a solid lower budgeted independent, with fairly sharp dialogue and character behavior. I was a little let down by the very abrupt, and neatly wrapped up ending. Other than that it was a satisfying pickup.

For a touted new restoration however, the elements here are still in intermittently rough shape.

Re: Last BD (or, unrealistically, HD DVD) you watched?

I got both The House With A Clock In It's Walls and A Simple Plan on BD from my county library, but the results were a little different than I expected.
House does a nice job of evoking the Amblin films of years past, but it never quite came together for me. The nostalgia and emotional aspects of the story just didn't connect for me, and the main plot is a bit thin.
On the other hand, Plan is a movie that knows it's A Movie. Highly stylized in its look, and arch and comedic in tone, it definitely engaged me even though it's just one big contraption.
