Sony launches BD Rewards program (update: DEAD)
From Hidefdigest.com
http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/sh...s_Program/2145 Sony Launches BD Rewards Program Mon Oct 06, 2008 at 03:00 PM ET Sony has just announced the launch of its BD rewards program, set to begin with the debut of this week's 'You Don't Mess With The Zohan.' The free program, entitled the Sony Pictures Blu-ray Club, rewards consumers for purchasing BD-live enabled Sony Pictures Blu-ray titles. Customers accumulate points which are tallied through BD-Live-accessible players, giving them the opportunity to earn Sony products and prizes, as well as the chance to become members of the greater Sony Rewards program. Consumers join the program by creating user profiles via their network connected Blu-ray players. They can also create these memberships online at www.sonyrewards.com/bluray. They will then accrue points as applicable titles are purchased and registered, thereby automatically crediting the user's rewards balance and progress toward various rewards and prizes. “Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is dedicated to providing consumers with the most dynamic Blu-ray Disc experiences possible,” said Lexine Wong, Senior Executive Vice President of Worldwide Marketing. "The Sony Pictures Blu-ray Club, made possible by the new interactivity of BD-Live, provides a unique incentive for our consumers who have embraced our Blu-ray high definition movies.” To learn more about the program, go to the program's homepage at www.sonyrewards.com/bluray |
It looks to be 100 points a title. So 40 titles = a free BD? Yeah...not worth the hassle of registering each disc to get a free $15 one. If they had exclusive releases...I might bother.
|
exclusive releases? hahaha. you're reaching for the stars on that.
Blu-Ray is very niche. Exclusive releases for a reward program (which is niche of current owners) is not ever going to happen for a niche platform |
"Also, each time you register 10 Blu-ray titles, we will automatically send you a $10.00 coupon that can be used to increase your Blu-ray library."
|
After reading how products are registered; all you gotta do is either borrow or rent these movies

Blu-Ray is a niche. Get over it and accept it.

Now, I for one am going to sign for it as it is very simple and obviously aimed at assisting collectors towards expanding their collections. To quote JackBurton: "Also, each time you register 10 Blu-ray titles, we will automatically send you a $10.00 coupon that can be used to increase your Blu-ray library." Pro-B |

This promotion sounds pretty great to me, personally. |
Hey, they could have done nothing at all. At least this way the consumers are getting something back. I'l definitely sign up for this.

The only catch is that it only works with Blu-ray Live discs. From their web site:
Registering your Blu-ray disc is as simply as 1-2-3! 1. First make certain that you have a BD – Live enabled Blu-ray disc. You will find the BD Live logo on the back of your BD movie package. 2. Simply insert your BD-Live enabled disc into your network-connected Blu-ray Player and select BD-live from the Special Features section on the Menu. Once on the BD-Live screen you will see instructions in the My Profile section on how to create a User Profile, just click on the link and follow the on-screen guides. SO does anyone have a list of Sony Blu-ray Live enabled discs? |
I was just about to ask for the Blu-Ray Live list as well. I probably have at least 5-6 already.

Apples, thats what I want to know.
What if I buy a used copy and the previous owner already "registered it"? And 10 films = $10 off coupon...is that it? Anything else to these points or just an automatic coupon? Can it be used on any BD title or just Sony releases? We need more information. |

I'm gonna try and register my HD DVD copy of "Transformers".:D
Edit: And The Exorcism of Emily Rose is listed, but there is no BD-Live on the disc. It was an error...don't know if Sony fixed it after its initial release. |

Sorry, thats a list of all BD-Live capable titles. So you will see some Universal mixed in there.

Again, check out the site. That will be the most accurate place to get info. :) |

So after you get your $10 off coupon, anything else must be redeemed at SonyStyle.com and you can only apply a certain amount of points to their (overpriced) product. This really, really confusing. You can get discounts if you answer the Wheel of Fortune puzzle daily and the Sony television question. Plus, you get points for answering those. There are other ways to earn points in Sony Rewards, too. And of course the sony card id the easiest way. |
I didn't see anything about the point limits that the guy at HDD posted. The FAQ says:
15. Q: How will I use my points when I buy from the Sony Rewards catalog? A: That's easy. Just select an item from the catalog and put it in your shopping cart. When you proceed to checkout, we'll apply all of your eligible points toward your redemption. If you don't have enough points, you'll be given the opportunity to purchase additional points so that you can get the Sony stuff you want! |
