Lord of The Rings on Blu-Ray in 2010!

Re: Lord of The Rings on Blu-Ray in 2010!
I wouldn't be surprised if the EE's are released one...by...one. In other words Q3 2011 FOTR, Q4 2011 TT, and Q1 2012 ROTK. They will be your typical overly-hyped 4-Disc, redundant and paradox discs.

Re: Lord of The Rings on Blu-Ray in 2010!
I watched all 3 yesterday and had a blast, been awhile since I had seen them, TE's or EE's. Fellowship PQ did pale compared to the other 2 which looked great, but it didn't bother me to the point of annoyance. AQ on all 3 was spectacular. A few days ago, I skimmed through the 1st disc of Two Towers EE, just for a quick point of reference... but after watching the BDs, I won't be viewing that upscaled crap again. Like everyone else, I hope the EEs come out on Blu sooner rather than later... but for now, the SD EEs will collect dust on my shelf, the TE BDs are far & away my go-to choice.

From The Digital Bits:
http://www.thedigitalbits.com/#040710
Well... judging by the reader reaction e-mailed to me overnight, it seems to be much as we predicted: A lot of people out there today are wondering what all the fuss was about with regard to early reviewer complaints about The Lord of the Rings Blu-rays. To the extent that a few people are still disappointed over the discs, it's that they don't also include the Extended Editions of the films. But even those folks seem to be pleased with the video and audio quality, which is seen as a significant improvement over the previous DVDs regardless of display size. Readers are noting, as I did, that Fellowship looks a little softer than the other two, but that all three are as good or better than they expected. I've since learned that Fellowship was about 70% Digital Intermediate (D.I.) in its post-production, while Two Towers and Return of the King were 100% D.I. in post. That means that in preparing the Blu-ray masters, while Warner could go to the original D.I. for Towers and King, they had to run a new print for Fellowship, and that alone could account for the discrepancy in image detail and crispness. In any case, most of you seem quite happy with these Blu-rays, and that's what counts. As I've said before, I'm certainly happy to have them available - something to tide me over until the Extended Editions are released in HD in a couple years. Theatrical Rings on Blu-ray is certainly better than NO Rings on Blu-ray.

I watched Return of the King last night. Definitely the best transfer of the 3. I think it had just a tad more detail and a bit more pop in the colors compared to Two Towers. Some of the daytime scenes looked gorgeous. This probably has the best audio mix as well. Solid a/v throughout. It's too bad Fellowship didn't turn out as well as the other films. If you prefer the theatrical versions, I think this is still a set worth getting. Due to the inconsistent quality of the first film, I'd probably wait until you could get the set for $45-$50. I'm sure we'll see that price sometime this year.

Not unless the original has some notable flaws. But I've never noticed serious issues with the FOTR releases on DVD. It might be worth going back to see if there's differences between the quality of DVD transfers in FOTR, TTT, and ROTK, and then compare those with the quality of their respective Blu-Ray release.

Re: Lord of The Rings on Blu-Ray in 2010!
I missed out on the LOTR US steelbook at the time they hit stores. It looked so-so in pictures online, but it was a steelbook. It had to be better than the slipcase, right. So I decided to buy it on Ebay.
The thing just arrived today and I have to say its the biggest piece of shit ever. I knew it would be mostly plastic and stickers. But damn it, it gets much worse than that. First of all, the stickers on the front and back have air bubbles in them! The sticker on the spine is off center (at least on mine). The paint on the metal parts is flaking off. The swing trays are made of super-cheap bendy plastic with the eco-holes cut out of them. There is no movie image on the back or on the inside (as is usually the case with steelbooks). There is nowhere to keep the inserts in the case, either. And the damn thing weighs nothing. My Dark Knight DVD steelbook weighs a ton compared to this.
I know it was basically free if you pre-ordered LOTR at Best Buy, but why bother making such a turd? I would have paid an extra $15.00 for the Canadian version.
Thank God the slipcase is actually pretty nice. I'm getting rid of this thing today.

Went over to Best Buy today and found 2 versions of the regular LOTR BDs. This does not refer to the Anduril exclusive.
There's the regular one when it first came out. Then there's one about half as thick only containing the fatter BD case (I didn't see any info on these about digital copies).

I just saw the same thing at BB today. They had copies with the movies and a case w/ digital copies in a box and then they had a slimmer box with only the movie case. Same price for each.

WB has been offering up the digital copies on a limited basis for the last few months. Usually after a few weeks, they start sending new stock without the DC. Didn't take long for them to do the same with LOTR.

I'm probably one of the few who prefers the Theatrical Cut of The Two Towers over the Extended. I just really love the edit, the way the tension is cut, the way it flows with the score and everything else. So I'll probably pick these up.

I saw that too, but the single case version did mention Digital Copies on the back. So...who knows?

So... my wife won a copy of this! She works part time at a nationwide store, and they had a contest to see which location could sell the most copies. Her store won, so everyone got a free copy

Re: Lord of The Rings on Blu-Ray in 2010!
Anyone here opted to get a refund back from their pre-ordered LOTR steelbook at Bestbuy?
What I did were:
- I kept the receipts
- I opened one steelbook (damaged one),
- I made use of the $50 Sideshow Collectibles gift card
- I bought 10 pieces of this figure stand

- I got myself some freebie swags from Sideshow mailed separately from my order

- I went back to Bestbuy with the slipcard of the opened LOTR preordered steelbook and requested refund (make sure to emphasize the "Notes" section)

- Got my refund back (one batch of the refund was credited as a store credit, the other batch was charged back to my credit card)

Individual releases of the films are coming on 09/14/2010, sans digital copies. Doesn't make much sense to release these individually, but anyway ... No word on the Extended Editions yet.

I called this months ago:
Anyway, aren't there people that prefer a mix of cuts, i.e. theatrical cuts of one or two of the films, and the EE of the other(s)? This way people can mix and match their preferred cuts of each film without having to buy the trilogy twice (assuming the EEs don't also contain the theatrical cuts).
Or, it could appeal to people strapped for cash, since they can by the films incrementally.

Spoiler:
If a new DI was struck for the BD release of FotR, it should look as good, if not better, than the sequels.

Can you only get the Canadian edition of this release?
I just bought it for the artwork though I own the extended blu-ray editions.
Bought 2 set from Ebay and both sellers were from the US and one sent in with a Amazon receipt but both boxes had French Canadian writing.

Re: Lord of The Rings on Blu-Ray in 2010!
Why stolen? it was clearly "Printed" on the mechanics and rules.
You got problem with it? or you were left with none?
And as what I previously stated, I charged back my credit cart and got the refund (dude, it is clearly legal and I abide by the law governing financial transaction).
Probably the reason why you are stating stolen, is because you are naive about financial related stuff
