Black Friday: 2008 - Will we finally see some Blu-ray bargains?
 

I'm sure everyone of you here has scavenged through Best Buy, Circuit City, and Target, every year building your DVD collection. Is there any chance this year, now that Blu-ray has become the sole HD format, and has grown in popularity/sales steadily, that we see some great deals on select titles this November?

More and more titles go on sale weekly at Best Buy/CC these days... like the $14.99 WB sale. I dont think its too far fetched to assume we see some $9.99 sales this Black Friday.

Anyway, discuss if you'd like... this may just be me posting this thread as wishful thinking.

i think it's a little too early for Black Friday speculation threads. just my opinion.

At least you have Black Friday to look forward to in the States. North of the border we have to wait until Boxing Day ... I'm hoping there will be some good Blu sales then ... but not looking forward to waking up before the crack of dawn and braving the black ice ...

Besides a Buy 2 get 1 Free...no, I think disc sales will be pretty lame. They may do a few oddballs like "Speed Racer BD $14.99" but don't expect anything huge.

Black Friday deals will most likely be focused on hardware, not software. We may see some of the older catalog titles cheaper. But I think the BDA will want to get new owners on that day. So maybe the Funai brand (Insignia/Magnavox) unit will probably be under $200. Maybe $150?

I don't know about Black Friday, but I suspect that we will see many sales for Blu-ray during the holiday season in order to push the format -- that's why I'll be holding off on purchasing a lot of catalogue titles being released soon.

It's because people get up at 3am in the dark to buy socks really cheap(at least where I live)

That's the first day of the year when most businesses financially go into the "black".

I predict all Blu-ray players will be $50 or less, SW will be given away like Halloween candy, and Ralph Nader will be elected President.:)

I am curious as to what player prices will be at.

I'd like to pick up one for the bedroom.

I'm personally hoping for a lot of $3 Blu-ray titles at Wal-Mart.

I'd almost be tempted pick up some Fox catalog titles for that . . .

True as that may or may not be, it was on my mind and wanted to post it.

For this format, I'm fine with picking up weekly $13.99 sales titles at my local Fry's. I guess $9.99 would be better (and depends on what is selling for that price), but I'd be more interested in seeing some hardware prices taking a major drop. That'd tempt me to finally get a second BD player.

I am already seeing 250 and occasionally 200 dollar prices on blu-ray players on sites like icrvit and tdirect. I sure would like to see players go down even lower for Black Friday. I think the manufacturers will have to budge especially because the economy is in the toilet!

I think that we might see stores that have two or three select Blu-ray titles on sale in the $9.99 - $14.99 range, but not more than that. I think it's still too early in the format's life for the massive DVD-style sales (where they have a stack of DVD titles at $3.99 each) we normally see on Black Friday.

Then again, Best Buy and Circuit City generally run $3.99-$4.99-$6.99 sales on DVDs on a weekly basis, so we might see some really awesome deals on DVDs this year.

Also, if -- and I mean IF -- they're going to pushing Blu-ray hardware this season, then it wouldn't surprise me to see a few more BR software deals popping up in order to push hardware sales than anticipated.

It's a double meaning.

If you're a business owner, it's when you start turning a profit. (Going from "in the red" to "in the black")

If you're an employee or customer, it means long lines (sometimes hundreds of heads long), traffic jams, and full parking lots. ("Black" as in misery and suffering)

Again, not sure how many of you have a Fry's in your area (the weekly ads in the DVD Bargains Forum seems like they're mostly in the West Coast, Texas, and Chicago), but their weekly ads have BD's in the $9.99-$14.99 range, and there's usually about 5-10 to choose from. I'm counting on them expanding the list for the day after Thanksgiving. Would be nice to see Best Buy and Circuit City do the same. Hardware price drops would be ideal for me though, but I'm not sure who's pushing more for software or hardware price drops. I would think hardware should be lowered first since it may piss people off to get nice cheap BD's, but nothing to play them on.

I'm pretty sure those shit Sony titles that are on sale all the time will be $9.99.

Personally...I doubt we will see many bargains on discs. If anything, some $9.99 or $14.99 catalogue titles, most will probably be ones we can live without.

I love Black Friday just because I find it enjoyable to see news clips of the riots outside Best Buy & Wal-Mart just to buy a $15 DVD player.

BDs have not been $9.99 since HD DVD died unless you count those really crappy Echobridge titles. No Sony BD title has dipped below $13.99 since then either.
