Heh, FedEx's site is back up again, and now it accepts my tracking # as valid.

Ordered 9/2
Buy.com said it was shipped 9/4
FedEx said it was shipped 9/12 (what?!?)
Estimated delivery is 9/15

I don't get the 8 day delay, nor the fact that this is coming from Carol Stream, IL, which is a 3-4 hour drive from Bloomington, IN. Oh well....

I have the exact same thing on my order. I figured Buy.com was bullshitting on 09/04 date.

Got my shipment today. The movies were Firewall and Perfect Storm.

Not too happy with the packing job Buy.com did. First, the HD-DVDs were put inside the Venturer player box, which means they had to unseal it then re-seal it with tape. Next, the player box was placed in a larger shipping box with NO packing material. No peanuts, no air pocket thingies, no wrapping paper... heck, not even a packing slip. Just empty air. The player seems to be undamaged, but I'll have to give it a thorough test to ensure that no internal components got jarred loose on the 13 day "flight" from IL to IN.

I don't think so. All the HD DVD players that came with two free movies had the discs in the player box, presumably put there well before the retailer got them.

Hmm... then the Venturer bubbas did a lousy job, because the taping job on the box I got was pretty amateur.

Mine showed up today and I'll say the same thing about the packaging. I've seen better tape jobs at Best Buy for open box specials. It looks like someone just threw some tape on there. Uh guys, you kind of stretch the tape as you put it on. Got Perfect Storm and Firewall. I freakin knew I'd get Firewall. I don't have the disdain for the movie many people did however I did already have one copy. I really don't need a backup copy.

Same here, not too happy with the packing job from buy.com.
I got my moneys worth though..

I don't think I'm going to buy anything else from buy.com.

other Reasons.

Their Return Policy looks crappy add that with their long shipping times,I don't
think you can return your item unless it doesn't work.

but if this HD-dvd works for close to a year,I'll be happy for $60 bucks.

What I got

Venturer SHD7000
Made in China
Oct. 2007

I'll do a head to head review against my LG BH200,in the next few days.

Cheers

Joe

My player worked fine, in spite of the non-protective packaging. I'm actually pretty happy with the form factor of the Venturer.... lightweight, compact, not too tall, but it dosen't have a "tinny" feel to it.

There, I went ahead and jinxed it.

The firmware on it appears to be v1.3, so I get to choose which version I'll flash it with... or just leave it alone and see what happens.

Wife just called.

Mine came into today.

Firewall and A Perfect Storm.

Tape job was consistent with previous reports.

Now to see if I can actually watch the HD-DVDs my D3 can't play.

Mine arrived today as well. I went with the 300/Bourne package so it was all original packaging with those two movies advertised on the front of the box. Only played with it a bit but it seems to be working fine. I figure I'll worry about firmware when I run into issues.

For those who missed out on this at Buy.com, Woot has it on their Yahoo site for $55 shipped ($49.99 + $5 s/h).

Linky: http://sellout.woot.com/Default.aspx?WootSaleId=6700

Like all things Woot, you can order 1-3 of the items for the same flat $5 shipping. The deal ends when they sell out, or at midnight Central Time (2h 30m from now), whichever comes first.
