Blu-ray.com and I think HighDefDigest had the other one, but I don't remember off the top of my head.

Just Blu-Ray.com of those two. And I just bought the BD based on those screenshots and review. Wow!

Blu-ray.com review. Sounds like a flawless presentation.

An absolute day 1 purchase for me. This will make a perfect anniversary present for the G/F. I might have to upgrade from our 32" tv to truly appreciate this one.
That screen cap of the close up of Belle and the Beast in the ball room is my new wallpaper- Gorgeous!

Did anyone really think Disney would screw this up?

Disney has a good track record with their most desired animated movies. However, live-action catalog titles from any studio have been so hit or miss that I can't blame some for being nervous about even Disney animation. And, these titles don't get dipped often. If they screw one of these up, we may not get an improved version for a decade.

Do we have confirmation that all of the supplements from the Platinum DVD are being ported over to the blu?

Per the blu-ray.com review:

Classic DVD Bonus Features (SD, 62 minutes): The previously released DVD's high quality materials are included as well, albeit in standard definition. "The Story Behind the Story" digs into seven separate Disney films; Hahn presides over an early presentation reel and an alternate version of "Be Our Guest;" Menken unveils an alternate score for "The Transformation;" Hahn and Menken introduce "Human Again," a deleted song comprised of storyboards; a collection of "Animation Tests, Roughs & Clean-Ups" proves to be an all-too-short treat; a "Camera Move Test" provides a glimpse at the virtual sets created for the film's most complex shots; a "Music Video" features Celine Dion performing "Beauty and the Beast;" and a series of trailers and TV spots will satisfy completists.

The BD looks fantastic. I wish I still had my old DVD to compare it to, but it's nice to see a 90's era Disney cartoon (the ones I grew up with).

I have high expectations for Beauty and the Beast as well, ever since seeing the trailer for it on the Toy Story BDs. Did anybody else say "Holy crap!" when the clips from the actual movie appeared during that trailer?

The new screenshots do look very good.

After seeing that review I am incredibly excited for this release. I was looking forward to it before but now I'm really excited.

Just watched this all the way through - for the first time since the DVD came out probably. All I say on this is DAMN, this is really the best one Disney has ever released. It rivals even Pixar's releases thus far IMO. The whole movie (especially the opening sequence) looks so vibrant, the colors seem like they almost glow. Incredibly outstanding picture. The sound is great as well, they really make use out of the 7.1 surround field.

Anybody have any idea what that whole "formatted to fit your screen" remark means on the back of the case? It's written there under the specs right under the pics. Was Beauty and the Beast originally 1.66:1 or 1.85:1 or something?

Looks like the original intended ratio was 1.85:1, no big deal...

It was animated at 1.66:1, but screened at a cropped 1.85:1 in theaters. So this new ratio is different from the original theatrical presentation, but loses no part of the image. I think I'm fine with this compromise, can't wait to see how gorgeous it looks!

Yeah, the DVD was also about 1.78:1, although it had a little black space all around. And, it's worth noting that Warner and Paramount, at least, will open the mattes a little to 1.78:1 for their 1.85:1 titles. It's not a big deal IMHO.

Re: Disney Classic Animation BD Plans: 2009-2010 - Pinocchio, Snow White, Fantasia, B

I just finished seeing the Blu-ray release of Beauty and the Beast.

The picture quality is incredibly clear--so much so it actually bumps up against the limits of the hand drawn animation! But what really amazes me is how sharp and detailed the backgrounds are on this release--things I missed with the Platinum Edition DVD release.

EDIT: Indeed, I saw it a second time and I HIGHLY recommend this disc if you have a 50" or bigger flat panel TV. You want such a big TV if you want to savor all that jaw-dropping background detail.

Now, when will we see the Diamond Edition release of The Lion King?
