The price is pretty ridiculous. But I still say it has its uses.

Plus a lot of people have home videos on VHS still.

Since it has a hard drive, I would assume it allows you to record high-def TV programming, either off antenna or an HD cable box, then burn it to Blu-ray. It would be the first easy way to archive HD programming.

But yeah, the inclusion of VHS is weird. I guess at this point VHS drives are so cheap, Panasonic figured "Why the hell not?"

Yep, you're right. I supposed I should have actually gone to the link that was listed and read about it. But a burner makes the VHS portion pretty worthless.

There are some people that just can't give up the tape. My uncle still has a bunch of obscure music video and concert material on beta and he refuses to give it up. He'll wait until the machine gives up the ghost. He's been slow to upgrade to HD because he still has beta, VHS, in addition to a full collection record albums and home made cassette tapes.

Hey, don't knock the record albums! Many still think they sound superior to CDs and they have been making a comeback in recent years.

I think the word "niche" is being generous. How about "micro-niche"

I would think that most everyone who wanted to convert their VHS tapes into "digital form" would have done it a long time ago onto DVD. I don't see why people who already converted their tapes into DVD would want to do it again. The purpose of doing it is to convert into digital format. Moreover, if anybody is thinking of doing the service now, a whole industry has spawned on this - and is sure as shit cheaper than $1,450.00.

Blu Ray players are going to keep playing DVDs so its not like their "converted VHS" DVDs are going to blow up.

Nobody is mentioning that this is coming out in Japan. EVERYTHING comes out in Japan, and not necesarily in the US. Besides. Stuff like this in the US is usually geared toward prosumers, like video production companies.

Im not getting it unless they include a record player and 8 track options. Also I saw no HI-FI sound outputs.

Hey don't laugh. I had 8 tracks. They were cool, no rewinding:rock:

This Blu-ray/VHS Combo player is pretty hilarious. How in the world do they think it is worth it's hefty price tag?

Because it's a 6X Blu-ray recorder with a 320 GB hard drive. The VHS portion probably adds about $25 to the overall cost of the unit.
