Are any of these worth upgrading from standard to Blu-ray?

I have to be picky about what I upgrade with from my previous standard DVD collection because blu-rays are so pricey. Now I realize in a perfect world I would upgrade all of my collection to blu-ray but that AIN'T happening! I got Narnia and will be getting The Searchers with John Wayne (it's one of my favorites) but which of these (if any) would really be worth me upgrading?

Pirates of the Carribbean trilogy (Box set due in Sep-really almost sold on this one)
Spider Man Trilogy
Rambo Trilogy
The Perfect Storm
Superman Returns
Fifth Element
Harry Potter movies (box set also comes out in late Fall)

Get POTC, Spider-man, and Fifth Element. Rambo is good, but not great (same with storm), and Superman will eventually be upgraded with a lossless track.

^ditto but also the HP movies are worth an upgrade IMO.

I'd for sure get the Spider-Man Trilogy and the Harry Potter films. IMHO those are must-own High Definition releases.

Fifth Element is essential.

Watch for sales on the SpiderMan trilogy, I picked it up for $34 at a recent J&R.com sale.

As for the POTC trilogy, if you can live without the box and have or would use a Disney Movie Club membership, it's $59.95+4.95 shipping, and then gets you 50-60% off standard DVDs or TV-on-DVD from the same order, depending on the sale of the week.

I thought the first Rambo looked really good, and if you don't have the newer releases, you don't have the Sly commentary. Since I snagged the entire trilogy for $27, that seems worthwhile to me. It's certainly the cheapest of the boxes you listed.

I'm waiting until all the films are released when WB will invariably put out a Blu-ray uber-set that will no doubt include extras that were previously unavailable. Drop date would be about 2011? While the Blu-rays are definitely better, the PS3 upconvert made me happy enough with the current SD sets in the meantime.

Plus these will all get cheaper as time goes on.

I have to admit I am always floored when I see people take this stance. Not that there's anything wrong with it, but damn, you'll wait 3 more years to have these films in high-def? No way I have that kind of patience.

I've watched the DVD's upconverted many times, and the Blu-Ray's a very welcome improvement - especially on the earlier ones.

Neither do I, but that is why they invented Netflix. I'm still in the process of slimming down my DVD collection instead of expanding further!

... and if you fast forward through the Chris Rock parts, it's even Great!!!

Last time I watched, I think I only had to endure 4 or 5 lines out of him.

I think you mean Chris Tucker, but yes, he's annoying.

Ahh there's my disconnect. I never consider the rental angle on films like Harry Potter because I like them too much to not own them.

It's a an improvement, but I think I've reached a point where I just don't give a shit any more.

I've gone back to rentals for the most part and find myself renting more DVDs that actual BDs simply because they're either not available or OOS.

...and paying retail is
